Owning a salon

So I had one of my sims buy the salon and I'm a little confused on some things. Right now if she tries to do a makeover on a customer she just ends up making them look like a clown. If she does one at home on a family member/friend I get to choose the makeover. So my question is, how do I get her cosmotology level up so that customers won't look like clowns? And where do I keep track of her level? And when hiring employees how do I know if they have a high enough level?

you'll have to have your sim keep working on it to earn the talent badges- bronze, silver & gold.
In your career panel you can keep track of the badges your sim has earned- though you are
not able to track the badge progress.

When hiring sims, the hiring interface informs you which sims have which badges, before you hire them.

Or, if you'd like to seed thingvs along, you can give any Sim any badges you prefer using the Insimenator.
