Technical question: what does Pets need?

Can I install Pets when I have only the basic set and EP1 (University), or do I have to buy all things between University and Pets (Nightlife, etc)?

The only prerequisite is that you have the Sims 2 base game installed, and that your compuer meets or (preferrably) exceeds the minimum requirements.
