Sims 2 issue?

Sims 2
University
That's it.
4GB laptop
Toshiba
Runs nicely
Uhm well, everything is working pretty good besides the thing that counts the most: going to my families.
When I click on the house and press to go in, it takes FOREVER to load. So far, it's been about..hmm... ten minutes. I minimized the screen and checked the task manager. It says that Sims 2 is still responding. So, it's just really weird. I haven't been able to get to any of my families for days. And when I tried to move a person into the house, it took forever then too. And I closed the game. I came back and he was in the house, but I still couldnt get in. The picture of him was like he was sitting indian style, but it didnt look very indian style-ish. Do you have any idea what's wrong? Help, please!

4gb of what? total hard drive space? RAM?
What about your video card and processor speed? Also, are you running on Vista or XP?
Have you tried running your game without any custom content?

4GB of Ram I guess.
I've tried to check my video card and processor speed. But I can't find out a way to do it and get any information in return. Do you have an idea how to? I have Vista - isnt that different form XP itself.
Uhm, no. I'm worried about what might do! If I take out the downloads folder when I load the sims again, and put my downloads back in, will I have to upload all of the outfits and furniture again?

Just pull out the downloads folder and plunk it on your desktop. It won't hurt your game at all. The only thing that will happen is it will remove the cc from your game. To get it back in, just put the Downloads folder back into My Documents/EA Games/Sims 2
If you go to your start menu, right click on "Computer" and then select "Properties" you'll see you processor information there. For your video card if you go to Start>Run and type in
dxdiag
, your graphics card information will be under the Display tab.

Alright, I'll try pulling out the download folder.
Alright, it says:

OK, just so you are aware, your processor just barely meets the minimum requirements for play, so regardless of what you do, you may find you'll always have some issues with smooth game play.
Let me know how your game works without the cc.

Crap. Really? I always thought that there'd be a problem with me playing the game and what not. But is there a way to like, upgrade everything or something?
It works like it normally does without the CC. Like from the start menu it loads faster - like 2 minutes faster. Everything loads a bit faster, but not by much. But I still can't get into my families!

It really depends. Many laptop manufactures solder the CPU (processor) right onto the motherboard, making it almost impossible to get off without breaking it. The best thing to do is some comparison shopping. Phone a computer guy and let him know what you've got, and ask if it's possible to upgrade your processor and what the cost will be. The sims really isn't a laptop friendly game. Most laptops have a integrated video chip, which is what you have. Yours will run the Sims with the integrated video you've got, but it's not ideal, and that's not something you can upgrade (I don't think).
Just on a lark, try going into Documents/EA Games and delete the following files: cigen.package, accessory.cache and group.cache. Sometimes these files can get corrupt over time and cause various problems with your game, not limited to the game opening slowly or not at all. Don't worry, the game will regenerate fresh, clean copies when you restart your game

When I bought this laptop they said that this kind of Toshiba ran good with the Sims 2 and what not. I looked at the customer reviews and random sites and they said that it was pretty Sims 2 friendly. Toshiba Satelitte M305-S4848. This kind of stuff happened on my destop also. Really, Sims 2 has been working much better on my laptop. But there's that whole families thing! I should call though. I might tomorrow.
And nope. I did that and it still isn't working! I cannot get my families open at all. Everything's loading quick and whatnot, but my families simply will
not
load. Any more ideas? Thank you for the ones you've mentioned already!

No problem. I'm happy to help. Is it just one family or any family? Oh, one more question. Is your game patched?

All families. So far, I've tried a few families and university lots. They just won't load. And yeah, my game is patched.

Try doing a computer check to see if you can run them! What I mean by that is here is a Link to Can I Run it. the select the sims 2 Uni. it will give you a screen on your infomation and what might be needed.

One thing that you can do to see if it's a hardware problem is lower the screen resolution and effects. You can do that once you're in a neighborhood, but before you load a lot. Set everything to Low or Off and set your screen resolution to 800x600, then see if you can get into a lot. If it does the exact same thing it has been doing, then I'd want to suspect that there's a problem with your Sims installation. Have you tried reinstalling Sims?
