New Moon:
the family you created will be in the family ban and you won't have your progeress. you can delete your saved family and make a new file in Sunset Valley

Razamataz:
Go to edit Town, the game will ask if you want to save. Do it. On the world map your home shows with a green house icon click it and package it to save. then you can add it to the other hood. This Might or might not keep all family progress. This is the only way I know of that might let you keep progression.
