Im totally confused!!!! *about CC*

Ok, so EA has put a losed-source, digitally verified and signed codec in the game which makes it illegal for us to change, making custom content. They have put this download manager packaged meatly with the game to check for only thier content in your game and also this launcher thing, which I am thinking EA must have some way to apy on you from that also...
Anyways, Im seeing CC made my modders on MTS2 and MATY. How is tjhis possible? I know how it is possible for them to make it and put it on the internet, DUH but how do you get away with it? I havent registered my game cause that makes me paraniod too and I havent downloaded anything eyt cause Im scared to put it in my game since it is so TABOO this time (which BTW sucks!)
Any explanation or info you have will be helpful. I want cool stuff to make this game awesome but I dont wanna get in trouble....

well, they're working from this section of the EULA:

you may not modify, reverse engineer, disassemble, license, transfer, distribute, create works from, or sell the Tool, or use the Tools & Materials to further any commercial purpose

to say that it's OK so long as it's all shared freely. EA are fully expecting the community to come up with the goods and their pet site T$R has supposedly been working on that tool of theirs since January.

I wouldn't be put off from downloading - some of the hacks/mods already created are proving extremely useful. And there's no reason not to register your game either, plenty have done so quite safely

I would like to know how to MAKE custom content for the sims 3 because its fun making cc and hacking sims 2 but all I've found is a skinset on mts and a couple of tutorials on how to make textures *grumble* i thought that the minute sims 3 came out the site would be flooded with sims 3 cc and everyone would be all, "out with the old, in with the new"

yes, it WAS a taboo thing however it seems that EA is, for the moment, happy for the community to make mods for the game. Note that they haven't stomped in and issued legal letters to MTS, T$R and MATY (not that Pes would be bothered ) and other sites that are springing up or have been around to develop Sims 3 tools for a while now.

Even if we DID have to go underground for mods, you wouldn't get into trouble for registering and then downloading mods - how on earth would EA know what you had put in your game??!

There is a whole creation section for Sims 3 on MTS, not just patterns and textures. There's also Inge's Sims 3 Tools site which has been around for months now - a number of fab modders are there. And if you're really that desperate to make CC for the game, do what other modders are doing and just start digging into the game files.

As to "out with old, in with the new" did you seriously think that people were just going to drop TS2 like a hot potato? If you did, you certainly haven't been keeping abreast of the various fora out there!

Heh, you think we can instantly mod Sims 3 as soon as the game hit the streets everywhere? No, some of us are waiting for the appropriate tools to come along to do extensive modding and not just a dinky lil mod for Sims 3.

You don't expect a whole bloody lot, now do you? Also, you'll notice where the Sims 3 stuff is on this site, down near the very bottom. Speaks about the quality of the thing, now doesn't it? No, we ain't getting rid of the stuff for the previous game, so forget that notion. Some of us here didn't even want to give Sims 3 any space at ALL, so what do you think about them apples?

You don't think? I've noticed. Unlike TSR, this community wasn't graced with a six month period of having stuff to create tools for making content, so how in the bloody hell can you expect us to have fresh content for the stupid game just bursting out of the download sections? And had it been done with illegally gotten games, I don't think we would have been hosting it cause well, gee, we just ain't that kind of site.

Now, if you'll check over to MTS, they've got some meshes and stuff for the game now, clothing as I recall.  @Ali, Aikea Guinea has made a set of default replacement eyes for the game. Knock yourselves out, people, because it looks like your game just got a little more nice to look at.

So I have downloaded the sims 3 monkey install helper from MTS2 which is working great. Do I need to remove EA's download manager from my pc? I heard it was a spy for EA, and even if it is not, I have yet to use it for anything so why do I need it on my pc? Anyone know more about this?

it's not doing anything, just deny it access to the internet and leave it at that - you never know, you may just want to download something from the store at some point..... though I doubt it!!!
