Sims won't eat on Comm. lots

Hi All,
 I have a strange problem and I can't find anything about it anywhere.
 My Sims will not eat in a restaurant or night club, with or without a date.
They look at the menu , think about what they want , even chat with the waitress.
They will drink from a glass at the table.
But when she walks away she never brings back food.
 After a few minutes my sim jumps up from their chair, it reminds me of the old jump bug !
I have all expansion packs except for AL, University & Bon Voyage.
And I have all stuff packs .
 Can anyone help please?

this sounds basic i know but it goes with the t.v. repair man asking if it is pluged in...

did you click on the waiter/waitress and 'order for...' ?
otherwise it could be some interaction mods causing conflict (i had npc s arrive on lots and just stand around for awhile) if so and this is a new problem copy your last game mods you put in, to your desktop, reload the game and see if that works

Are all of your games patched? Vaguely recall there was a problem with waiters/waitresses taking orders and then never serving them which was addresed by an official patch at one point or another.

If everything IS patched, then it certainly sounds like either incompatible or conflicting custom content.
