My dog ran away!

Well one of my sims dogs ran away, but he was returned by the cops a few days later. however, no matter what i do the dog's icon still have the run away status on it. i had to use a cheat just to make him selectable again. how do i get rid of that run away status on the doggie? thanks!

He should come back eventually. It's kinda like your sims running away, but calling the cops wont do very much. And have you updated your Pets patch? That can probably fix your problem.
