Thanks ladies...I almost packed it in on this chapter...None of the actors were very cooperative on this scene, Zargon in particular.
Lothar's funny? I've always thought Smitty was the funny one....
Don't even think about packing it it. You would be hunted down and crucified or something worse.
The Mule:
Across the river at the former Steven's Institute of Technology Roman Spacek awakens. It's been a long, long slumber. His body, as it is, is stiff and week from inactivity. Not to mention un-nourished now for decades.
Roman lays there awhile...it's going to take some time to get going this time. He's never quite slept like this last one. Dead to the world. He snickers at that thought.
Well Roman, he thinks, what happens next? It's time. Time to begin again.
He remembers what his father told him, as what was left of his soul slipped away. His father used to work in this place. This institute of higher learning. A world ripe for their needs. Young girls always available to a handsome professor like his father. And willing to help the young son experience life as well. Ironic that they never understood it was he himself who did the teaching...
Something uncompfortable was jabbing in his back. Ah...no wonder I'm so stiff...The old man's journal. Dusty...Roman felt the leather hide, inhaling the musty smell of old vellum and ink.
Time to see what the old man had to say before he left.
"Roman...if you're reading this then know that you're the last of us. Not just the last Spacek, but the last of our kind. Our kind has always been tied to the humans, more so now than ever. We cannot feed from the mutants. That would be....death? I'm still not sure what the correct word is, but you know what I mean. We need the humans to feed on. If the mutants are succesful in wiping them out....well...that will be the end of our kind too. As odd as it sounds, you must help the humans in this battle...
Odd turn of events, thought Roman. Aiding the enemy in order to survive...Well it DOES make sense...
Roman lay thinking about this for a bit. What to do next? Might as well check on Rex...
Rex was an old falcon that Roman's great great grandfather had captured back in the old country. Somehow to nearness to the immortallity of the vampires had an affect on the bird. It didn't age either. Roman was glad. Rex always lifted his spirits.
How are you doing, boy? Roman cooed to the hawk. His eyes looked a little cloudy, and he was definately in need of food, like Roman himself.
Roman could hear the bird think. We need food master...it was thinking...
I know my friend, I know....Roman thought back. I shall let you out to feed. Go carefully my friend, the world is much more dangerous than when you last saw it....
Roman took a moment to admire the avian's coloring. While he was indeed ancient, the bird still looked like a fine physical specimen.
Now go, Roman pushed with his mind...fed...enjoy!! Maybe even find a mate! It is OUR time now Rex...OUR time!
Roman sat at his father's archaic writing machine. The old man never did embrace computers. Not that it mattered now. He began typing HIS story. The story to tell his offspring, when he had some. Best to be prepared.
An hour later he'd completed his journal. It was just as well. He'd put off what he must do long enough now. Time to go feed on human blood. And somehow... figure out a way to help them in their struggle against the mutants.
