I got an AMD Athalon 64 x2 dual core processor 6000+ 3.01GHZ 2047MB RAM, on a 32 bit operating system and my sims runs fine (unless I do something to it like upload new stuff pack without backing up)

Wow This is weird.
I now have almost everything I want on my game.
I am just having to extract the files to my downloads folder my self.
It seems that vista does not like my Sims 2 Pack Clean installer, nor my File Maid.
Hummmmm, well maybe I don't like Vista ! LOL
All this administrator stuff is agrivating, I bought the dang thing, I should be able to run anything on it , without an act of congress.
Gosh, I miss XP !  ROFL
Thanks all, for your help, by the way I must say my Sims have never looked so good.
In a lot of ways this computer is the bomb!
Huggles,
Donna

I am so scared now.  I just bought a dell computer, Inspiron531s, AMD Athalon 64X2 dual core processor 4000+ 2.30GHz with 2 gigs RAM and I don't know what the bits on the OS yet, but it's Vista basic. I didn't want Vista, but that is all you can get, without paying higher for XP.  I have a video card I planned on installing when it gets in, ATI x1650 pro, 512mb ddr2.  I wondered if I will have a problem installing the Sims games and expansion packs on my new computer?  I pray not!  I will be very disappointed. :D

Heyloo. Long time lurker first time poster.
I'm just wondering if anybody's heard a cure for the "the application has crashed. The application will now terminate" error. It's really kicking my ass. The furthest I ever got to playing on my new Sony Vaio was to the neighborhood screen, and that was for about a second. I've done clean uninstalls and reinstalls, have all the updates from ea, tried running it in compatibility mode and in a window... No change. I do have an assload of custom content, but it doesn't run even without it.
Not to mention bodyshop, with it's error of, "Direct3D returned an error: D3DERR_INVALID CALL!
The application will now terminate..." I like the exclamation point. And "derr" is right! Apparently the computer is using DirectX for things, but there aren't any updates to be installed to that end. It's a 32bit, Vista Home Premium, with a video card called "Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family". That doesn't have any updates either.
So basically I've tried everything that's been suggested (for the range of problems that come with running sims2 on vista), but haven't seen a definitive solution yet that'll... work for me. I've tried running the game on my old XP, but it's the dvd version and my old computer doesn't have a dvd drive... So in sum, I'm in sims withdrawal. Does anyone know what's goin' on?

I need help installing the Sims2 extensions I am new to window I have an imac G5 which I have been playing the sims2 on but got a laptop and I am sooo lost on how to install on my laptop. It is an HP Pavilion dv9500 has NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS intel r core 2 duo cpu T7300 2.00 GHz. 32 bit operating system, 320 gb hard drive, 2gb memory so im sure it is compatable. I just don't know how to get the extensions to install without getting an error and having to stop the install it is supposed to install the extensions somewhere other than where the original sims2 is but I am lost as to the functioning of windows. Please can someone help me get them installed?! I have all extesions up to bon voyage with the exclusion of the small packs. uni, nl, ofb, pets, seasons, then bon voyage. Thanks to anyone who can help.
Here is the error I get trying to install University at 68% (a problem occured when trying to transfer the F:\TSbin\Ts2UPD.exe from the media). What does this mean and how can I get the extensions to install? I may just go back to playing on the mac soooo easy to install and play. But people say how much better the sims2 is on windows but not if you can't get the extensions to install!!!!

Turned out to be a defective CD,  I tried installing Nightlife and it installed!!!! I will go buy another University disc tomorrow then install all the others and hope they work. Guess I should  have tried installing others before. LOL
