ok, i have been taking things off my game for about 3 hours trying to figure out what could be causing my game to vrash when i try to create a new family. i have taken off sims that i have downlaoded, clothes, almost everything that i have put in my game since the problem. could the problem have something to do with something i created on the sim body shop? should i erase my recent projects? i am so confused. so if anyone might know how to help i would greatly appriciate it. :smt120

My guess is with CAS crashing, you have a bad mesh in your downloads.  Take a look at what you've added since the last time you used CAS and move those meshs off someplace else.  Try the game out.  If it works, it's just a matter of going through those meshes to find the bad one.

Focus on what you added since the last time you used CAS.  Most likely it's a clothing or hair mesh, but I wouldn't rule out other objects.  I remember FlyingPigeon making a dress top mesh that would hose the phone when trying to buy a community lot or open a business.  Go figure.

sometimes this game just makes me wonder why i play at all. but then i remember. i took out some more stuff, but i cant remember the date when i went on. and now im afraid to go test it out.lol how pathetic. im afraid it could be furniture. because that would be bad. i have already put it in the game. it would be a mess. i hope i already took it out. i have about 3 other problems i can live with but this one has got to get fixed

I've encountered that problem before.  Usually what triggers it is having a corrupted file or too many Sims in your SavedSims folder.  It can be found here:
MyDocuments/EAGames/TheSims2/SavedSims
This folder contains all your pre-made sims in Create-A-Family.  You should make a backup of this folder so you don't lose your favorite sims then move those files out of the game and give it a try.
You should also delete groups.cache and cigen.package from: MyDocuments/EAGames/TheSims2.  These get corrupted easily.  The groups.cache file will be created again automatically as soon as you run the game and the cigen.package will be created again as soon as you open up Bodyshop.
You should also run the Clean installer and get rid of duplicate files.  They'll be highlighted in pink.  http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/
And it never hurts to run the Sims 2 Hack Conflict Detection Utility:
http://www.simwardrobe.com/

You're welcome, glad I could help.  I should change my nickname to crashtestdummy...I think I've found just about every possible way to crash and fix TS2.

Hmm this one could get complicated.  My first thought is conflicting mods, but I'm guessing you've run the Hack Detection Utility already.  My next thought is since you've had CAS/Body Shop problems too, it could be a corrupt/incompatable file specifically related to genetics like hair, eyes and/or skintone.  Does this happen to all your pregnant sims or just a specific one?  If it's just a specific one that it happens to, you could try moving them onto a different lot.
You can find a list of errors with details in MyDocuments/EAGames/TheSims2/logs.
This thread is old but it may help:
