Chapter 10
As much as Emily loves her husband she didn't want Caleb to know she made the appointment to see the new doctor. She wasn't sure why she didn't want him to know right away she just didn't feel like Caleb really wanted to try again for another baby. At least not as soon as she wanted to. There was something telling her he wasn't ok with it. So the day of her appointment almost a month later she let Caleb go off to work as usual without a care in the world. 9am rolled around and Emily got herself dressed and ready to go. As far as she knew this was just going to be a check up to make sure she was ok after the miscarriage to start another round of IVF. She got to the office and looked around. She couldnt believe how beautiful it looked. It was by far a lot nicer than Dr. Browns office. It gave her kind of a homey feeling rather than a harsh hospital feeling. After sitting in the waiting room watching some episode of Dr. Phil for some time Emily was called back to a room. After checking her weight and vitals the nurse said that the doctor would be in with her shortly. Emily looked around the room and thoughts of her miscarriage and her first IVF treatment ran through her head. She felt sick to her stomach and thought about running out of the office and never looking back. That thought was interrupted when the door opened and an older woman walked into the room.
"Hello Emily, I'm Dr. Hayes." She said shaking Emily's hand.
For some reason seeing that this doctor was a woman every fear in her mind went way.
"Hello." Emily said. "Ok well lets get started here, now it says here you just suffered from a miscarriage." The doctor said.
"Yes, that was our first try at the IVF." Emily said.
"Well its good that there was no d&c required and that your body took care of it naturally. Now it says here you have PCOS and with that I'm assuming you don't ovulate?" Dr. Hayes asked.
"Yes thats true." Emily said.
"Ok well then we will get you set up with a round of Clomid and see you and your husband back here in about 2 weeks for the egg retrieval." The doctor said.
She wrote out Emily a prescription and told her how and when to take it. After about 15 minutes of questions and answers and getting to know each other a bit she told Emily to go to the front desk and make her appointment for the egg retrieval.
On her way home from the doctors Emily drove by Dr. Browns office. She knew it was coming up and she knew she could take a different way home but she felt pulled to drive by. The next thing she knew she was sitting in the parking lot staring at the door. She didn't know why but she wanted to walk in there and tell every woman she could to get the heck out of there for their own good. Instead she sat there with tears running down her face. She put the car in drive and got out of there as fast as she could. She had an idea in her head and she didn't want to loose it.
As soon as Emily got home she threw her purse on the kitchen table and went straight to her computer. She did all the research she could on the so called "Dr. Brown". She was amazed to see that he was wanted in 9 different states across the U.S. She also found a few different websites in Michigan where there were recommending him as one of the best fertility specialists around. She sent them all an email telling them about her findings and giving them detective Stevens number if they had any other information about him that might be incriminating. She was going to do all she could to stop this man. She got on her forum as well and put up a post: "Attention anyone in the Great Lakes area: My name is Emily Harrison and I have been very hurt by a man I thought was a great doctor. He goes by the name of Dr. John Brown here but he has been known to have a few different aliases. He is also wanted in 9 different states in the U.S. I want to do all I can to put this man away for good and stop him from hurting anyone else. First of all I want to start some sort of petition or way of letting ladies know not to go to his office. Please pass this along to any woman you know. The more people who know about this man the better chance we have stopping him from hurting someone else." She posted it and almost instantly had her first reply. It was from the lady who posted the first post about him that Caleb had found. She told Emily that she was also working on a petition in her area and wanted Emily's name to be on it. She also wanted to meet with Emily to discuss other options of getting people away from his office. They set up a time for Molly to fly to Michigan and spend a week there. She wanted to come as soon as possible so she asked Emily if the following week would be ok and Emily agreed. After talking back and forth online for most of the day Caleb came home and Emily said goodbye to Molly.
Caleb and Emily cooked dinner together and sat down to eat. Emily decided to come clean to Caleb about what she had done that day.
"I had an appointment with one of the doctors you found for me." Emily said
"Oh really, why didn't you tell me I could have taken the day off." Caleb said not sounding upset at all
"It wasn't anything important just got to met Dr. Hayes and she gave me another prescription for the Clomid and then in 2 weeks we will go back for the egg retrieval and then on to another few weeks of playing the waiting game." She said pushing some food around on her plate. Caleb could tell she was thinking about something.
"Are you ok Emily? You don't seem to be in a very good mood today." He said
"Yeah I'm fine I just... well... on the way home I drove by Dr. Browns office." Caleb looked at her like he was about to blow up and she continued. "I didn't go in or anything I just sat there looking at the door wanting to go tell every woman that was in his office to get out and to never go back there." She said
"Oh Emily don't worry in time they will arrest him. I talked to the detective today and he said they are very close to narrowing in on getting him there are just a few more details they have to get first." Caleb said.
"Well thats great, but umm I wanted to let you know I talked to someone online today from that forum, the lady who posted the thread that you read about him. Her name is Molly and she is very nice and she wants to work with us in getting him put away so she is going to fly up here next week and we are going to work on the petition I started today and possibly some other ideas to put him in jail faster, or maybe just ways to get the word out." She said.
"Well I guess that might be a good idea but are you sure you are up for this? Do you really want to take the chance of something happening to you? Because I don't. I want to make sure you are safe Emily. Especially in a few weeks, you never know you could be carrying our baby." Caleb said.
Emily could tell he was upset but she didn't care. He didn't understand what had happened to her. She wanted to make sure nothing happened to anyone else. They ate the rest of their meal in silence.
