Disappearing Wall Objects?

I've been looking through websites and the FAQs trying to find a solution to this problem but to no avail.

I have the Sims 2 + University and Nightlife. I haven't played it in nearly a year because my laptop would always overheat but I finally got around to getting it cleaned and I can play again without any problems.

But I noticed there's a small glitch. If I buy an object (like wall lamps or paintings), they show up. As soon as I hit save or put the walls down, they disappear. Other objects, like the dart board and smoke detectors remain. I don't remember this happening before and its really confusing because I forget the object is there since I can't see it and I'm almost always in the mode with the walls down.

I have no custom content installed so I'm not sure what's going on but I'm pretty sure I used to be able to see those items even with the walls down.

Anyone have a suggestion as to whats wrong?

I don't think there's anything wrong. It's just one of the charming attributes of the game :)
