Cannot clean up dirty plates

I recently had a sim move her family in with her boyfriend, but this started before I did that.  No one can clean up plates in the house.  Not the maid.  Not the adults.  Not the kids.  I tried cheats to delete the plates and that didn't seem to work.

Any idea as to how to fix this?

Buy a cheap table.  Move the dirty plates to that table.  With moveobjects on, delete the table.  You get your money back and get rid of the mess.

make sure nothing is in the way of them when they are trying to grab them. move them out side in the yard and see if they can clean them that way.
