Missing text notifications

I noticed awhile ago that I am missing any and all text notifications (job promotions, school/work notifications etc). I can hear the sound as if they have appeared, but they are no where on the screen.
Previously I ignored it as a minor annoyance, but it has been bothering me more recently and so I'm searching for a solution.
What I am wondering is: has anyone else had this problem? Or is there any mod/bug that is known to cause this?
I was trying to check out the official TS2 website to see what the patches fix, but my internet trips out every time I try to load the pages, so I couldn't find out if this is a common bug that has been 'fixed' by one of the patches.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hummm isn't there an option on the insim that triggers those message off?

open your cheat box and type in

showHeadlines on

I thought that only toggled the display of the speech/thought bubbles?

Thanks Megativity, I feel extremely stupid, but you were right. The notifications are back.
