I just discovered this today, but it seems like a good 3d image creator(maybe mesh just started playing with it) and animation creator.
its free becuase its under the gnu.

Thanks Aaron....I'm going to move this to the general modding section as it is useful to people just starting out.

Grykon:
Blender is a good program...but be cautioned...it does not do sims 2 obj's that have to be animated...so don't waste your time if you want to do skin meshes, or other things that move...it will not work...been there...done it many times and got totally bent...use milkshape.

Aaroneous:
I dont  plan on  using it for the sims 2, I was looking for a good program for modeling for anther game. with python you can do alot of things if you have the plug in.
But thanks for the warning.

Grykon:
When I was first trying to learn to mesh, I used Blender and found it to be quick and easy to learn...more intuitive then milkshape...so I do recommend it for most things!!!
