When I`m about to play the game and mouse and click on the house to choose a family, game freezes and I can do nothing but ctrl-alt-delete to end it.
Can`t I do anything else than start game all over??

Have you tried running your game without downloads?

How long do you usually wait before you give up and crash it? I have had this happen on many occasions. Sometimes I have to wait several minutes, and then the family name for the lot will pop up. I'm not sure why it does that.. I thought it could be because I enable boolprop before going into lots (while in neighborhood mode) but that's purely speculation.

I've had it happen to me, also. I think it has to do with the memory the game uses. Last night I noticed that my active memory was very low, so I removed all my CC, and reloaded the game. Worked fine..but I can't live without some CC, so put in only what I absolutely *need* to play without any massive cheating..and it still does it.
So I think it has to do with the memory, IMHO. Check your Sims 2 log (it is in your game folder, should be created with every start-up) and find out if the memory is low. I've already asked hubby to buy more memory to get the game to run better. Until then, it will be a game of patience.

Closing down any unneccesary background tasks before running the game should help too. Oh, and if you use items with a higher poly count, that'll slow things down too.

I think that it is the game memory for that household - it happens for me too, but if i wait long enough i am always able to get into the family lot and play
