Free Time - Dance Contests

OK, I haven't attempted any other contests yet, but when I go to the music and dance club house and try to get my sim to join in the dance contest, she and a couple of other sims will gather around the DJ booth, hold themselves and otherwise act nervous, and then just wander away.
 
Has anyone else had this problem?

I have the same problem.... There is no dancing. That dance place is very weird... There was this professor who jumped in my Sim's arms and she didn't even KNOW him.

This happens when the game is waiting for all couples to join the competition.

Just keep on trying, at one point all sims will be ready to do the contest.
