Where the Heart Is

Chapter One

My name is Kimora LeGotto.

This is my husband, Jason.

And this is our home on 15 Sycamore Lane.

On Tuesday morning, I was up fixing breakfast when the phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was my doctor.

When I hung up the phone, I was ecstatic. I ran into the bedroom to Jason. “Jason! Guess what?”

“What?”

“I’m pregnant!!”

A look of shock mixed with happiness came over his face. “Really?! Honey, that’s great!!!” He exclaimed, pulling me into a hug.

Over the next few months, my belly grew bigger, as did my mood swings and strange cravings.

Jason and I were on Cloud 9 until the seventh month of my pregnancy. I was walking down from the nursery to the kitchen when I slipped and fell down the stairs.

We lost the baby.

I was devastated. Jason and I had wanted a child since the beginning of our marriage, but we’d always had trouble conceiving.

Then after a lot of talking and discussing, we decided to adopt.

That’s how Katherine came into our life.

I chose her out of everyone because she reminded me so much of Jason. I didn’t think anything of it……until late one night.

Chapter Two

“Don’t you lie to me!” I yelled at Jason. Jason had been staying out late the past few weeks, which raised my suspicions.

“What do you want me to say?”

“I know you’ve been with another woman. Don’t deny it!”

Jason sighed. “Okay, I can’t hide this anymore. I have to tell you the whole story.”

“What whole story?” I asked, confused and frustrated.

“Kim, about a year and-a-half ago, I got drunk at a bar. I met a woman named Christa and we went back to her place. Things happened.”

”I can’t believe you would cheat on me!”

“That isn’t the whole story. I got Christa pregnant………with Katherine.”

I was in shock.

“Yeah. Katherine is my biological daughter. I’m so sorry, Kimora.”

With tears in my eyes, I growled “Get out.”

Jason’s eyes grew wide. “Wh—what??”

“GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE!” I screamed.

“Kimora, please—”

“Get the hell out of here before I kill you.”

“What about Katherine?”

“I’m taking full custody of her. That way, all you have to worry about is that bitch of yours!”

With his head hung low, he walked out of the family room, through the foyer, and out the door.

I sighed heavily. I heard Katherine crying from her high chair. I plastered a fake smile on my face and took Katherine to her room.

Placing her in the crib, I kissed her forehead and gazed into her eyes. She had Jason’s eyes.

She smiled up at me and cooed. I smiled told her goodnight, and turned of the ceiling light. Taking one last look at my daughter, I wiped away a tear and closed the door behind me.

discowhipped:
Ooh! Hey, you used my idea! Yay. lol Where the Heart Is is the name of the book by Billie Letts I'm studying in English. :D I like it so far.

Glamily:
♥♥♥♥♥♥ it!

Chapter Three

Now it was just Katherine and I. Over the next few months, she said her first word, and took her first wobbly steps.

One morning, I had just placed Katherine in her high chair and was getting her breakfast when there was a knock at the door.

I gave Katherine her breakfast and went to answer the door.

Imagine my surprise when I saw Jason standing on the porch. “What are you doing here?” I asked angrily.

He sighed. “Kimora, I need to talk to you.”

Rolling my eyes, I said, “Jason, I’m not taking you back!”

“No, it isn’t about that. It’s more important.”

I agreed to hear him out and led him into the bedroom we once shared. As soon as we got in there, his eyes began to tear up.

“What?” I said.

“Kim, I just got back from the doctor.”

“The doctor? Wha—”

“It wasn’t good. They had done a bunch of tests on me a few days ago, and today I got the results.”

“What is it?”

“Kimora, I have cancer.”
