47  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / windows to Mac Conversion on: April 08, 2008, 04:27:16 pm
I have the macbook pro with the radeon x1600 card and can play up to BV in OSX and have played Seasons in XP.  It does get hot when playing graphic intensive programs.

I play though on a ppc iMac with the radeon 9600.  Not the best card, but I play up to BV with it.  With just a small amount of cc...I have no patience to wait for the load time more than anything.

Basically by using Bootcamp your mac becomes a pc.  *gasp*  Horrendous I know....Cheesy  Now the new iMacs are also small, but I don't think overheating is too much of an issue.  You could probably get the 24" iMac for the same as the Macbook Pro.  Some people have been having issues with the new video card on the intel iMacs, with up to Seasons, and Aspyr is telling them to buy BV as it fixes it.  But on the windows side, thats going to be different.  I don't know how that video card relates on the windows side.

I would not suggest playing the sims with an emulation program.  If you get the intel macs, which all are now, just install windows xp.  You may or may not already own this based on your previous pcs.  I would make sure to get the largest HD available though if you plan on partitioning.  You will still have the same software issues on the windows side as you have now.

Well depending on what program you are  using to unzip, but the original zip/rar file is in your trash.  Sort that by date and it will list everything you've downloaded.  Then compare it to your downloads folder.

The ideal thing to do is have a new folder within your downloads to put all new stuff until you know it works.

51  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / SimPE and Virtual PC on: April 05, 2008, 08:03:46 am
No I'm pretty sure it cannot read the data files from your using Virtual PC.  I've used VMWare and and I so far cannot access the OSX partition when in windows.  What you can do is copy the TSData files from the mac side to the pc side, then point simpe to those files.  You won't have the thumnails, but it should work.

54  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Clean installing homes? on: March 29, 2008, 11:48:45 am
Clean Installer won't make a lot made with an ep you don't have compatible with your game.  You will need the latest ep the creator has for the lot to be compatible.

So your trying to package a sim?  Or a lot?  Or a recolor of an object?

Either with a sim or house, you need to remove everything from your downloads folder but the items used.  Then package it.  The program does not save.

If you have an intel mac partitioned with windows, you can use parallels and then use clean installer to remove unwanted items.

If you don't have NL or above you cannot subfolder your Downloads folder.  For many mac users, bodyshop items usually show up only when put in the SavedSims folder.

And for some reason, when you have alot of downloads, the game will randomly ignore some folders.  You have to unsubfolder them, run the game, then put back in the subfolder.  Which forces it to work again.
57  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Everything not working on insimenator.net on: March 29, 2008, 09:22:22 am
yeegreen did you try the downloads?

OSX sees the .package file but does not know which program to associate with it and knows its a program file, therefore it gets the little black box with the green lettering that says exe.  This is only an icon picture!  It doesn't mean it is a faulty download or that it is incompatible.  If it has the .package put it into your Downloads folders.

Take one of your .package files and Apple+I (get info) look for the open with....then browse to the program you use to install, select it, and then select the check box to apply to such files.  Then all .package files will have that icon and be opened automatically with it.

So you are trying to run the game with OSX emulating windows XP?

Why? You should just run windows.  And with a macbook your video card is limited.   I don't think its even compatible with any ep's after NL, maybe Pets...
59  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / WooHoo for Mac - Download on: March 29, 2008, 08:53:29 am
When you select the remove, it won't save it.  That function was never implemented.  And when you want to install you have to individually select each item anyway, so its not necessary to remove items.
