Title: Mysterious disappearance of a Sim!
Post by: Diggrdude on August 02, 2009, 11:12:38 pm
One of my Sims (the mom in a family) has mysteriously disappeared!  I noticed this after a bad lot (not the one she lived on) caused problems.  I was able to get the Sim living on the bad lot out and delete the lot.  Then, as I went to different households, I noticed one blank thumnail in their sims phone books.  When I figuered-out which sim it was I when to her house.  I can hear her voice, but she can't be seen.  She can get food out of the refrigerator put she can't eat, shower, sleep, use the bathroom or anything (she can make puddles on the floor).  Her picture is missing but there is still a blank space for her in the family selector.  I moved the family out and back in but she is still in her "there but not there" state.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong, and possibly how to fix this?

Have you tried maybe the Sim Blender, to see if you can modify her in some way? Or the Insimenator... (I know this particular article is controversial at best, but if you have it already, maybe it's worth a try. If nothing else works, you might consider killing her (if you can get a hold of her) and resurrect her to see if that works. Otherwise I've got nothing...

Thanks Mari - I'm not familiar with Sim Blender, I have Imsimenator: though about deleting her, I guess I could try killing and resurrecting her, but I'd perfer not to!

Have you tried restoring the family? In the neighbourhood screen, enter the cheat 'boolprop testingcheatsenabled true' then go into the lot, shift click on a blank tile and you'll get some options. I *think* it's under 'other' - 'restore family'. Works if my families are playing up sometimes.

Long shot (it sounds as if the character's memories have gotten glorked)--

If she is selectable, try aging her down to teen, then exiting the lot, re-entering the lot and aging her back up.

Thanks for the suggestion rwills, unfortunately it didn't work!  I appreciate you any all others, for sharing your thinking on this!

Do you have a backup of the neighborhood?

There's one more thing I can think of. Open your cheat box and enter moveobjects on, then go into buy mode and select (if you can find her) the invisible sim. Delete her, save and exit to the neighbourhood, then re-enter the house. She'll be by the mailbox and (hopefully) reset.

Oh, wait ... another thing. On a lark, try going to the mirror and changing her appearance.

But first, try moving her out of the lot and move her back.

Hmm ... guess that's more than one more thing. LOL.

Not to be a pest, or anything, but could you please at least try to put capital letters where they belong as well as typing out the whole word rather than an abbreviation ("though" instead of "tho")? It will make your posts easier to read and, since many of our users aren't native English speakers, anything we can all do to be better understood by everyone is a great help.

Thanks :)

Really long shot--

Try installing the Ghost Hack:

http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?p&t=202081

and unghosting the Sim (as she for all intents and purposes seem to be exhibiting ghost characteristics).

LOL, love your energy!  Tried 'the mirror' thing, crashes game!  I'll give the 'moveObjects on, buy mode, delete' thing, I'll update.  Thanks caffeinated.joy!

hmmm, that is a long-shot, I may try it but I don't think it's a ghost situation.  I had her husband call the police to try and report her missing and when the female cop showed-up she gave him a fine for wasting her time.  Then my invisible sim's wants refreshed that she wanted to drink the female cop.  Something about luring the cop to some plant that would eat her and then give my sim juice to extend her own life, but I don't know where to get the plant.  Her husband also wants the female cop to be drank; I've never seen anything like it.  Maybe it's something you get from a gypsy or a witch!

The plant is the carnivorous cow-plant (Laganophyllis Simnovorii - part of Uni EP).

It is found on most Secret Society lots in colleges, and is also a career reward for the Natural Science career.

Can also be bought using either TwoJeffs 'Buyable Rewards Collection' mod (or similar such mods). TJ's is here (look under whichever matches your highest-level EP - if not there, keep going down the list until you find the highest version of the mod that still matches your EPs);

http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=5ca66c6ae124777d4ad880358f6aed4e&board=22.0

There are also recolors and such available at MTS2 and other sites.

Or can be had using boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true and shift-clicking on the newspaper to unlock career reward(s).

Or, if you have Nightlife installed, open the cheat window and use:

unlockCareerRewards

That will unlock all career rewards for the selected Sim.

Caffeine is the secret to my energy. Sleep is for the weak! LOL.

Anyway ... if changing her appearance crashes your game, then I highly suspect you have a conflicting mod in your game.

Okay, so I hope I'm not too late for another suggestion... hopefully, you haven't done anything extreme yet, like kill her off or throw your computer out your window.

I've seen the suggestion of using the Insimenator to kill her off and resurrect her, and also to restore the family, and to change her age... but I haven't seen the suggestion to delete her, save the game, exit the lot and re-enter to possibly see her standing at the mailbox, good as new.

If this has been suggested, I accidentally passed it somewhere and apologize.

I had a disappearance of twin babies from one lot. I looked everywhere to find they had been accidentally routed to the NPC, Townies or Downtownies (one of them) pools when I looked for them using the Summoner. Still don't know how that happened.  1blink

Interesting, I've downloaded the 2Js mod.  I'll give it a try.  Thanks rwills!

I think you may be right, she's-was a Classic Pinup and none of those seem to work in game now!

Well, none of it worked!  I appreciate all the suggestions.  The only thing I can figure-out is:I created a bad lot and there was a lightening strike on it that severley broke my game.  It was all I could do to get the sim out that lived there then delete the lot.  I had to a back-up copy of my game, before the sim I started this topic about, disappeared.  Played it, She's fine.  I've lost the storyline that had developed between the time she must have disappeared and the time I notice she was gone.  Also, I lost the sim that I rescued from the bad lot,as he was created after the date of the back-up copy.

I still have the game with the disappeared sim; Does anyone know a way to export or package an in-game sim?  I've looked everywhere, I have not found any instructions to do this, only packaging from bodyshop.  If I could import him into bodyshop, then package him, would be great!  Any Ideas?  Maybe I should start a new topic!  Thank again all!
