46  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Changing the Music? on: November 12, 2007, 02:08:38 am
Yeah I agree with Beosboxboy, if you don't have a lot of space this can cause game lag. So I'm careful. I have music everywhere but just enough that my system can handle. Getting rid of the standard music is a must. Also if you are in buy/build mode you can skip to the next song by simply going to the save/exit(...) area then return to the buy/build section. You don't have to actually exit or save the game. Just go there and then go back.

teah I still don't know what happened. I've used my backup so many times with BV that I just decided to can that neighborhood completly. I saved my some of my sims though. I thing is I was in Bodydhop deleting clothes too. So when I went back to my backup instead of putting the clothes back into the game I trashed ALL of my clothes and started over. I had a lot of unwanted clothes taking up space. Thank God I keep them in a subfolder. I really tired of using my Backup. I was getting confused about what happened from what really didn't happen because the backups are a week apart. Now everything is fine.
I've never ever seen MDMP files. I wonder too if anyone can at least explain.

I think you're right. I decided to use my backup. So from monday to friday something was corrupted. I didn't have many downloads this week. And what makes this worse is I have played with everything I downloaded this week. I don't know what changed. I blame them all too. I keep fixing one problem and another arises. I am officially done with anymore expansion packs. And before anybody says it, yes all my hacks are compatible. I've been playing with only a few since seasons and BV so I know they are fine.

Ea games don't support body shop as they say is is add on.
I run my game now under Vista and like you had body shop trouble problems, tech support at MTS2 work a great help.

I religiously now since NL delete the groups.cache file. It is most annoying.

Remove your downloads and saved sims folder with all its contents.
With the body shop Icon in BV start up body shop and see if it loads, if it does clone a sims character and save it, and recolor a piece of clothing save it and this will make body shop generate a new saved sims folder and a downloads folder fixing any root directory error that had been generated, copy and past all contents of the old saved sims files and the downloads folder into the new ones.

If it crashs again afer reinstallation of all the files then you have a file conflick and then have the tedious task of locating it and deleting it. I usually out of my 15000 files end up with one or two with every EP due to Maxis file mod.
clean installer may help as does conflick finder I downloaded from MTS2. I hope the four letters MTS2 is not blasphis here.
Hope this maybe of some help.

I have Vistas too and all of a sudden yesterday I could not access bodyshop. It started when I tryed to by clothes in the game. Now I had just been in BS earlier that day, but when the game crashed I tryed to load it afterwards. Since then it keeps crashing. I haven't downloaded any sims or hacks lately that aren't compatible. So I just tryed your suggestion.
It crashed again without both folders and now has left me a long list in my sims 2 folder that reads stuff like this:

TS2bodyshop 2007.11.10 9.34.09 MDMP
there are 203 of these files. I have clean installer but I can't figure out how to find the conflict here. Can you tell me how you did it?

By the way, It may just be me but have you noticed that with vista there is a new problem weekly? Even if you hadn't downloaded anything. I have an updated graphics card but every week I'm having a new issue with the game.

Just a note to people who have never been to North America.  Poison ivy is a real thing, it is a sort of woody, vining, bushy plant with lancate leaves, but is not a true ivy.  The plant produces urushiol, a powerful skin irritant, which produces a blistering, inflamed skin-rash accompanied by a powerful burning and itching sensation on contact with the skin, similar in effect to the rash produced by contact with sap of the Asian lacque tree's sap, nut shell of raw cashew fruit, and the skin of the mango fruit.  When burned, inhalation of the smoke causes diarrhea and other internal irritations.  Similar plants are poison oak (more shrub-like) and poison sumac (more tree-like)... none of them are much fun.

In the real world, once you encounter any of these vile surprises in nature:

  • First, cleanse exposed skin with generous amounts of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. (Don't return to the woods or yard the same day. Alcohol removes your skin's protection along with the urushiol and any new contact will cause the urushiol to penetrate twice as fast.)
  • Second, wash skin with water. (Water temperature does not matter; if you're outside, it's likely only cold water will be available.)
  • Third, take a regular shower with soap and warm water. Do not use soap before this point because soap will tend to pick up some of the urushiol from the surface of the skin and move it around.
  • Clothes, shoes, tools, and anything else that may have been in contact with the urushiol should be wiped off with alcohol and water. Be sure to wear gloves or otherwise cover your hands while doing this and then discard the hand covering.

If you don't cleanse quickly enough, or your skin is so sensitive that cleansing didn't help, redness and swelling will appear in about 12 to 48 hours. Blisters and itching will follow. For those rare people who react after their very first exposure, the rash appears after seven to 10 days.

Because they don't contain urushiol, the oozing blisters are not contagious nor can the fluid cause further spread on the affected person's body. Nevertheless, do not scratch the blisters because fingernails may carry germs that could cause an infection -- or worse there could be urushiol trapped under the nails and just spread the rash to ... well, places you really don't want this crud being, think "privy parts".

The rash will only occur where urushiol has touched the skin; it doesn't spread throughout the body on its own. However, the rash may seem to spread if it appears over time instead of all at once. This is either because the urushiol is absorbed at different rates in different parts of the body or because of repeated exposure to contaminated objects or urushiol trapped under the fingernails.

The rash, blisters and itch normally disappear in 14 to 20 days without any treatment. But few can handle the itch without some relief. For mild cases, wet compresses or soaking in cool water may be effective. Oral antihistamines can also relieve itching. Over-the-counter topical corticosteroids will deal with the itching effectively. For severe cases, prescription topical corticosteroid drugs can halt the reaction, but only if treatment begins within a few hours of exposure. Prescription oral corticosteroids should be used if the rash is on the face, genitals, or covers more than 30 percent of the body.

In short, if you come to North America and go anywhere outdoors, you run a high chance of encountering these vile, hateful plants.  Take this wisdom to heart, I thought the Yanks were winding me up....

You are so awesome for posting this. Sometimes I forget everyone does not live in North America. I wish I lived in Europe though that's my new lifetime goal: To move!

I agree with everybody. I have a handful of CC for my teen male sims and I'm thank for those finds because without it my sim would just have to go naked! You are absolutely correct but I'm hoping the the new expansion pack for teens will boost up their closet.
53  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / I still can`t Play?? Bon Voyage Problems on: October 24, 2007, 08:58:58 pm
Try extracting them from the house the use clean installer to delete that house. It may be the house is corrupt. Is it a house you downloaded? If you can't extract them from the house that way with out the game crashing them move them into another house with another family the have them move out. This seems to work without having to kill your sims. To search for that house in clean installer go to sims 2-EA games-specific neighborhood they live in-lots. a picture will come up of that paticular house delete it from there and it will be gone. Just move sims out first.

So what's the deal with poisen ivy? I'm playing right now and a couple took a our and came back with it. Now they can't stop itching. I think it's kind of funny especially because there's a new icon called "scratching". Just curious if anyone know how to get ride of it without InSim. My couple is on the camping grounds without one.

has anyone actually seen the ghost on the pirate ship? I did today and it freaked me out! I knew about the secret map in the Captain's Cabin. But if you go in the a couple of times the Ghost of Captain Edward Dregg comes out and you can have a conversation with him. One you get to know him a little you can prompt him to teach you the Sea captian's Song. It's got to be one of the coolest things I've seen thus far with BV

I get the hang or lag at the content screen and the town selection screen.  If I remove my mods, I just get it at the town selection screen and the vacation lots.

I also noticed the hang up does not happen when I play from a normal house, the real bad hang happens when they sims visit a vacation spot.  I mean it gets bad.  I disabled reflections, set shadows to medium, makes things better for a minute but then gets bad again.  I'm far and above the minimum requirements and I'm slightly above the recomended requirements, so I don't know what the story is with this expansion.

I know the vacation lots have a bit too much content and a few to many sims on the lots.  But I think this expansion is screaming for a patch already.

One good thing.. Bon Voyage adds jewelry.  Which is a good because I noticed after I installed Seaons the custom jewelry would flash blue quite often, but now I don't have to use that custom junk.  Not that I can even play the game right now, the lag is to annoying.

OK I finally bypassed the launcher (AGAIN) and got my game to start. I built a house and everything in this house was fine. Until I bought clothes. Before anyone asked the only hack related to clothing I have is the compatible pregnancy wear anything hack. But I did use InSim to buy my clothes. I noticed that one I bought clothes this lot began to lag. Now I was tons of memory and a Vistas HP. I noticed this happened on another lot too. But only in my normal Neighborhood. Not anywhere else not even BV lots. WTF?

Once I figured out what hacks were bother BV for me, I removed them. Had no problems, just really small glitches here and then. But yesterday morning before work I played, NO PROBLEM. Last night I came home tryed to run it and (this is VISTAS) now it crashed before it get's started. It's really wierd. I already a long time ago bypassed the launcher and it showed up again with saying Launch Sim2ep6. I restared my computer because sometimes that helps. Then started again this morning and it crashes five seconds after I click the shortcut. I haven't downloaded any new CC either. I'm still trying to figure this one out. I love this game but I was reading the complaint thread at Sim2.com and it just pisses me off. I hate that some J@#$a#@ decided that BV needed SecuROM. Thanks Maxis!
