Title: Penguin?
Post by: MisNomer on March 02, 2007, 09:21:10 am
A penguin wearing a scarf wandered by one of my Sim's homes in the wee hours of a spring morning.  If my sim had been awake, she could have pat it or shooed it, just like the skunk.  What's this about?  Can a penguin cause trouble? Bring fun? Become a pet?  Leave a gift?  It was so strange to see one.

ROFL!

I've had the penguin visit. When my toddler petted it, it was fine, but when one of my grandmas tried to pet it, the penguin pissed on her. :P

They show up randomly on lots in the Fall or Winter. I've had run-ins with a few of them now.

...haven't had one pee on me yet though :p

Penguins show up more when you're fishing.  If you take a fish out of your Sim's inventory and lay it on the ground, the Penguin will come along and eat it.  So will cats.

If you hang a fish, the Penguin will walk into the house and keep trying to jump up and get it.

The Penguin is adorable!  My little kids have named him "Mumbles" after the penguin on "Happy Feet" and they squeal with delight every time he comes on the lot.  Even better when he walked into the house and peed in the floor when he couldn't get the mounted bass!!!  They giggled like crazy!!

Aaaw! That's so adorable!
I still have to be patient untill March 6, because then I'll get Seasons.
But my game has been ready for it for weeks now! (I only have 12 files in my Downloads-folder, because I already removed InTeen)

Edit:
YAAYYY! It just got delivered. ^^ So what estimated delivery date!
Yay!! I'm installing Nightlife now, and Seasons is next! ^^

*jumps up and down from joy*

I second having him as a pet! He is so cute. I was so surprised that there was an actual penguin in the game! Hopefully it will be soon. BTW anyone know where the wells are in the game? Also, do sim parents brush off there kids from snow when they enter the house. It was on the trailer, but I haven't seen it in the game.

I love the Penguin, but I am not sure I want a Peeing Penguin as a pet. I have enough trouble with the dogs. I got the well by haveing a beautifully tended thriving Garden and haveing the garden club come over. I asked if I could join, after while they approved and I got the well.

I get the penguin rather often...a few visits during winter, almost daily, sometimes twice or thrice(:)) a day
It never pees though.

I usually just pet it because its so cute and take a fish out of the inventory for it to swallow.  Then it waddles off again.  Maybe it comes back so often because I always feed it!! :)

It started coming round in 'fall' (Autumn) now too.

According to Prima Guide, From child to elder, all can pet the penguin. If u shoo the penguin it damages daily and lifetime relationship. If you leave fish laying about, both cats and penguin will consume it. He will try to jump to get a fish mounted on your wall, and he comes by to chat with both the snowman and scarecrow. It also says he will sometimes leave a puddle. What it doesn't say anywhere is what happens if your relationship with the penguin gets and stays high, what benefit it is to your Sim. (if any)

What does the scarecorw actually do?

I hear it has some secret thing to it, like sometimes it actually moves around when sims make contact with it. I dunno

Title: Penguin?
Post by: PegasusDiana on March 28, 2007, 12:59:10 am
If you feed the penguin everytime he comes, he'll eat about 3 fish. He comes back everyday winter, spring, summer and fall. So he might as well be a pet. He shows up first thing in the morning and doesn't leave till late at night like other NPC's do when they come over. I had one girl in college all alone. Prettiest Sim I think I ever had and in game born. She couldn't get along with anyone, hardly any friends and no boyfriend. She comes from a family of 8 and they are all best friends but her. I tried the quick relationship heart, everything. She just doesn't like anyone always with the fingers in her ears routine. So those relationships go south quick. lol But apparently she made one really good friend the Penguin. I had her fish almost everyday at university and feed him, since she didn't cook while she was earning her badge. She bought her own house after she graduated and who shows up to welcome her to the neighborhood? The penguin. Before she even got finished gagging over everything I put in the house. Just walked in, tried to get the fish off the wall, walked over to her to be petted and handed his fish. He's there everyday, talking to the scarecrow or in winter the snowman following her around waiting for his fish. I had to put a small pond on her property so when she has none to feed him, to fish for him some. He's so greedy! Now I just wish she'd get along with someone, anyone else so I can marry her off. Either that or I hope she can marry that penguin!!

Sometimes it can come to life for just a minute and scare your SIMS. You have to be careful if they're a SIM that's real nervous or afraid of everything it can kill them from fright. lol

Also the new painting is animated and a light.

Here you go, the new vanity table. Backcountry vanity allows you to not only change your sims appearance but also the appearance of NPC's and  Townies by clicking on the make over option. The new doll you can make wishes on. The scarecrow can either startle or delight your Sims by clicking on view.  The new painting is a fully functioning light and the water is animated on it. Clicking on gussy up on the new mirror increases hygeine. Both the medicine cabinet and the floor standing mirror. the new toliet maxes fun. If you juggle hot chocolate mugs and another sim joins in it maxes fun. All four of the new rinks can be placed both on residental and community lots. If you use more than 7 lights in a room now, it will cause the room to flicker, why? I don't know. lol You can hang the season banners on street lights. All bars are supposed to connect now so you can get fancy with them like the cabinets. The new bar if you click on drink from the bottle it should max your fun. the new speakers increase fun for all sims listening even on community lots. If you kick over the kids snowman you'll get a rain of carrots. I've never had it happen kicking over and adults. You can also move the snowman once he's built in buy mode. Grouchy sims always make devil snowmen. If you plan on using the new reward weather controller, make sure you put smoke alarms on the outside of your house. It can bring a rain of fire killing not only your sims but any innocent sims walking by. Grim is not too pleasant when Sims are killed in fire or overheating. Depending on how much your willing to spend on a gift you can take a relationship not only daily but lifetime from a negative to 100 on each with one gift provided the gift giver has a postive. In the spring it is the season of romance for Sims, you may think your taking them to a best friend status and they could become crushes, fall in love. Not a glitch. Love potion aka beauty cocktail from the juicer makes them want to love, not mutual or visa versa. So if you drink it and your Sims start getting nothing but romantic wants with Sims they don't even know, lightening bolts that weren't there before, get more bold. You know why. It's like they drink it and first person they see they want nothing but romance with them. Drink OJ if your sick it will make you healthy. Umm let's see if you use the wishing well more than once within a 24 hours period you could get a beat down. You can catch butterflies and fireflies, fireflies can be used as lights. You can put anything on your roof now a chair a couch whatever you want on it. The greenhouse roofs can be used as regular roofs...I think that's about it. Everything gets learned faster in the fall, skills, faster homework, badges, etc...On the mailbox you now have the option to pay all bills so you don't have to hunt them down. Just like snow and heat, hail can kill Sims. You can change your hair for each category of clothing. You can put up to 30 objects in inventory and then an infinite number of those 30 objects.  There are also some Eggs put in Seasons, like you can find Easter Island in Riverblossom. Formal clothing provides the same protection as outerwear. Using the hot tub in the summer can cause your sims to combust. You can direct other sims to douse overheated sims or warm them up. Aliens can get very hot very fast but can't have a heatstroke, they can also handle extremely cold temps to -100 but can freeze to death. Vampires can handle from 100 to -80 but they can't freeze to death, they can however have a heatstroke. Zombies and servos don't have a temp, etc... Wolfmen can have both but it has to get extreme like with plant sims. Pets don't have any temperature. Oh sims killed by hail their ghosts do the hail dance. Toddlers like dogs can eat the snow. I think that's about it and I left out a lot but most you just learn as your going along.

I hate the penguin!!!

Everytime he came to the lot, he's always pee'd and wandered off. Everytime I see him in my lot I always get an adult sim to shoo him away before he leaves his mark.

I didn't know that the penguin would be after mounted fish and I have one of every kind of fish mounted on my wall, so now I know what he's after at least.

Apparently you can form relationships with him I have had Sims do it, and he doesn't go anywhere unless they are go to bed and he is right back when they wake up. The other day he was on one of my lots and I was using Insim for a quick relationship because he needed 1 more friend for work and right there in the quick relationship was NPC Penguin and there was an option to make him mutual best friends. He just like other Sims also in that he gets summoned if you use the friendship candles from Simslice or wish for friends from the wishing well. He is the only NPC animal that shows up on either the well or the candles. Had that one happen too, I was trying for an elderly friend for a man that lost his wife and I felt bad for him. When he made the wish on the well it summoned the penguin and two Sims for his three friends.

He never shows up on your list, and he requires a lot of fish. 3 fish every 3 hours and he leaves you a nice little puddle. He shows up at my girls house every morning at 7 and I make her go to bed at 2 so he leaves. I've never seen him sleep. When I use the rejuvinator on her and she stays up he stays there and doesn't leave. Just talking to the scarecrow or following her around. I posted some pics of him and her in an earlier post. She fed him all through college every fish she caught because I didn't know they wouldn't spoil in inventory at the time. Soon as she graduated and got her own place he was the first one there. She had no fish so I had to make her a pond real quick to feed him. He just kept trying to get the first fish she ever caught down off the wall. I counted how many fish he eats the other day and that's how I got the 3 fish every 3 hours. I lined up 12 fish on the ground and kept track of how many he ate and how often then lined up 12 more. Now if he/she doesn't have fish to eat they will not stay, they have to eat. Like when she had her cold he didn't show up till she was over it after he ate her last 2 fish. No flowers, no get well cards so you can fish for me, no nothing. lol Although he stays when she goes to work even if she doesn't leave fish down for him. I have to sit there and watch the clock tick slowly by with nothing to do. Or when she goes to town. Of course when anyone comes over we have to make them selectable so they can also fish for the thing, then she loads up on their fish as well. Well, she couldn't do it all alone! So he's a strange NPC sort of stray animal sort of Sim...:tongue8:

The penguin pees? It never did that to me before, even when petting or shooing. It never knocked over a trashcan either. For me it just wobbles around, talks to a snowman or incomplete snowman, then wobbles off. It's never done anything annoying or antisocial. It's so cute too... I tried to put in my inventory so I could place it on a lot and sell it, but it won't let you place it in your inventory...

Yeah, I thought the penguin was cute until one of my teens petted it (the penguin).  It peed and the teen that petted it stunk for 2 days.  He has been coming and going alot but I make my Sims ignore him.  He can talk to my snowman all he wants but leave my Sims alone.  The penguin is cute but like the skunk he leaves you stinkin'.

Lol Nonni, he didn't make my sim stink.

The penguin comes with seasons. He's so cute, and it's funny when he talks to the snowman. Never had him steal a fish though, most of my lots don't have ponds. I think I'll add one and try that out at winter.

It's good to set goals.  I think going to bed less stupid is a fantastic and worthy goal.  I've learned so much from the good folks in this forum, I'm beginning to think I'm quite brilliant at times.
I have to stay away from the Brain Age game to keep that thought.  Even when I cheat, I still fall behind.  Bad, naughty, Nonni
PS. how do you leave fish on the ground?

When you're fishing, if you catch a fish it goes in your inventory.
Take it out and set it on the ground. Easy!

The penguin walked through my house and one of my teens petted him and that is where he peed.  Then he waddled outside to talk to our snowman.  The teen mopped up the pee and everyone who came by him held their nose - that lasted about two days.  I thought there could be more interaction with the penguin but I guess not.  I still want to try giving the penguin a fish.

yeah, it definitely pees. that's why i no longer greet it. that and, well, it doesn't do much else, so it's kinda dull once you've seen it a couple times.
