The Lot Synchronizer is here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,2386.0.htmland the Sims 2 DB (DataBase) is on Mod The Sims 2, under programs, I do believe-while it is not being updated, it is still available for download-the creator of it has retired, but left it to be used. The Synchronizer lets you rotate between families without having to go to the neighborhood screen, and the DB is a program that lets you enter information about each family as you create and play them. I find them immensely useful to actually play the game without losing track of my families or my mind. They are both base game compatible-the DB is not even linked to the game, (unless you have SimPE) and you have to manually enter the information in-but still it is nice to have something to write down all the details of each family-it even lets you put pictures in the profiles if you have a additional camera such as MWSnap (don't have the link for that, sorry). Hope this helps out-even though I've only been playing the Sims 2 for about 5 months, you can tell I'm on top of my game!

I, too, have the Lot Synchronizer, and play my sims day by day. This makes it easier to keep track of who grows up, and who's pregnant, etc. Of course I also have the Sims 2 DB, which I use to keep track of them all. I'm pretty intrigued by the Royal Family challenge-without the challenge. I want to have a kingdom and rule like a real Tsarina. Oh, oh, there goes my downloads folder! Off to find dresses and castles!

Just to be a cold-water thrower, I hope they don't put any anti-piracy software into the thing. I don't think I'll be getting it until all the reports of bugs and misplays come through. Eaxis has been getting very sloppy in their work lately, and even if the video promises all wonderful things, sometimes it doesn't work that way.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Restarting Neighbourhoods
|
on: November 26, 2007, 12:11:57 am

The first time I ever copied a neighborhood, I deleted it from the directory the game itself is on-not the "core"game-then I went back to the "core game", which is installed on your hard drive in another place, and copied the folder for that into the game. This will reset the neighborhood to the pristine one that came with the game. Worked like a charm-although if you don't save your families, you will lose them..so throw them out of the house, literally. Bundle them up and put them in the folder named "saved sims". You should not lose any CC, if you have those in a "downloads" folder" in the game. In reference to the second part of the answer-I was the person who asked that question, and it was to recreate a second additional type of neighborhood; If you want to save any of the neighborhoods you already are playing, you can copy another edition of the neighborhood folder and renumber it to be different from the first: IE, if you have one "Pleasantview" that is going to be NOO1. The "second" Pleasantview folder should be renumbered (the entire folder, not just the label-all of the contents) to another number, as long as it is not the same as the original "Pleasantview" folder. That way you can have 2 Pleasantviews, 2 Veronavilles, and 2 Strangetowns in one game-although for the life of me, I wouldn't want to renumber all those files in one sitting! Hope this helps.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / fuzzy graphics??

Oh, a new video card did wonders for my game-it's one of the newest ones-an Nvidia GEForce 5500 series-it has bells, whistles and a couple of train horns..I see the videos the game has, fantastic screen shots..the works. Of course the work was done by the computer expert in my family, who installed the card, but I had to install the game on another (more memory) computer. It is worth the money to get a good video card, believe me. We paid about $50 for this, but it was on Ebay, and it wasn't the most expensive one, either..but I'm happy, and so's my game!

The code that "inhabits" the sim is the problem. The sim wasn't programmed to be part of the game, just a background. From what I understand, the codes running the game and the sims are different, and if you "resurrect" one from the dead using any type of doohickey, it will unleash code that will eventually eat up your game-not all at once, but it will start doing weird things-like the infamous jump bug..and other terrible things. I took mine out because I can't afford a new computer-and if it means taking out one resurrected sim, oh, well. I trust the expert modders, because they do this for a living, or a very serious hobby-they know the game inside and out-and if they say don't do it, I trust them to know what they're saying. I just don't like to take too many chances with this kind of tomfoolery. There's a reason for no easy way to resurrect sims, and perhaps they're better off dead. The reason that anyone has a "resurrect" want is that Maxis is stupid and forgot that you can't do it without extraordinary means. They didn't think to warn people not to do it, and it's only because people have done it, and gotten really bad results from it that it is generally frowned upon. That being said, do whatever you want-it's not my computer or my game. Just wanted to let you know that it might not be a good idea.
Here's a quote from the MATY board: "No -- the two character files come with the base game, and never change. I repeat, resurrecting Pleasantview (or Veronaville or Strangetown) characters that come with the base game is a VBT. The ability to resurrect anyone didn't come along until Uni was released, so none of those characters were ever designed to be resurrected. Doing so will eventually blow up your hood, especially if you attempt to breed any of them."
My game is base only-if yours is Uni or higher, you might be able to get away with it, especially with SimPE, editing everything about the sim you resurrect.

You shouldn't do it, according to all the expert modders at MTS, because it destroys your game-eventually, in bits and pieces. From what I understand, the memories of the reincarnated sim don't match with the ones in the neighborhood, and it just throws out all kinds of bad code. The only way I've read to properly resurrect a sim is to clone him in SimPE or CAS..and that way your game won't go up in flames. I did do a resurrection, myself, of Michael Bachelor-by using the Insim-but after reading a very stern warning not to do this, I made him die, again..oh, short, sweet life he had!

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / How do u make the teens pregnant
|

After enjoying that quip-very funny, actually...if one wants to do the teen woo-hoo, you have to go to the Inteen site and download it. If you don't know how to download anything, read any of the tutorials on TSR and learn about it. You have to have either WinRar or Winzip to download anything from any site-and usually you should have both because all downloads are one or the other. Another good thing to have is the "Sims File Maid 2" which I use to unzip my downloads. It saves time and aggravation, because you don't have to individually unzip and place any of the stuff in your Downloads folder. Also, you should go to the Sims Wiki site and learn more about the game-MTS is the founder of it, and many of the creators wrote articles for it.

I think it's your video card, to be honest-it's not up to the specs to run the graphics. I have the same problem at times, but I'm hopefully getting a new card installed on my computer this weekend-that should clear up the "fuzzies". You might investigate if you can get a new card and more memory.

Unfortunately, the majority of buyers-"fanboy kiddies" don't know any better than to accept what EAxis puts out-and those of us adults who do know quality when we see it are doomed to suffer because the kiddies do rule the game universe-and I'd dare say that the majority of the meshers, modders and creators are all adults who have better taste and qualifications for games. It is sometimes so stunning to see the difference between a professional creator and a "wannabe" (and there are a lot of those) in the different sites and forums. But if it wasn't for those people who do create some wonderful stuff, we'd all suffer the lack of imagination that stifles the Sims franchise. Thank god for the good, great creators-you make the game far better than it was meant to be.
