Title: Coral Castle--#1 in my 8 wonders for '08 Post by: Artamaeus on March 09, 2008, 12:05:27 pm Edward Leedskalnin was born in Riga, Latvia on August 10th, 1887. When Ed was 26 years old, he was engaged to be married to his one true Love, Agnes Scuffs. Heartbroken and deeply saddened by this tragic loss, Ed set out on a lifelong quest to create a monument to his lost love that has culminated into one of the world’s most remarkable accomplishments. Ed’s unusual creation is called the Coral Castle.
Like the Taj Mahal, this wondrous structure was made in memory of a lost love. However, the Taj had thousands of workers working on it. Ed did this singlehandedly, in age when cranes did not exist. Consider too that we was 5 foot and only 100 pounds or so, yet some of the coral in the structure weigh as much as 9 tons! How he build this stupendous structure is a mystery science may never solve. Included in this building is some custom coral wall paper I made using WP suite 8.0.
