18  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Delphy's Download Organiser on: April 24, 2007, 04:06:23 pm
Rogue, an orphan is just what you said, a recolor without any mesh,  but it can also be a mesh with no recolors, which you'd never see ingame, because meshes don't show up in-game unless they have a recolor.  When you delete items in-game, you're actually removing the recolors, but leaving the mesh.  The orphan scanner does tend to pick up a few non-orphans, out of over 700 that it found for me, I did notice about 8 items that weren't actual orphans, so care is needed when using it.
Overall, it's a great utility.  The more I use it and learn about it, the more I like it.  I've noticed since this thread was started, Delphy has posted several newer versions, so it's still a work in progress.
19  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Is it possible that downloadig to much will damage my game? on: April 24, 2007, 03:05:50 am
After adding alot of custom content in one session, the groups.cache file can and often does get corrupted.  Go to MyDocuments/EAGames/TheSims2 and delete groups.cache.  The game will make a new one the next time you run it.
If you downloaded alot of hacks or mods, some of them might be conflicting with each other.  You can unknowingly install hacks/mods by downloading custom houses and lots, the creator may not know or realize he/she is including them with download.  The Sims2 Exchange is notorious for this.  Download and run the Sims 2 Hack Conflict Detection Utility:
http://www.simwardrobe.com
You should also download the Sims2Pack Clean Installer from here:http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/
This will help you sort out your Downloads folder and see what's what.  Items highlighted in red are hacks/mods and items in pink are duplicate files.
Alot of custom content relies on the use of CEP.  You can get that here:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=92541
I've seen posts where people have said they have over 14000 files in their Downloads folder and over 10 gigs worth.  They've also said it takes upwards of 45 minutes just to load their game.  The more custom content you add, the longer it takes to load.  Alot depends on how much RAM and disk space you have on your system too.  There's no known limit to the amount of custom content you can have, but you have to make sure the downloads don't conflict with each other.
Moving the Downloads folder to your desktop and then slowly adding files back into it is a tried and true (and time consuming) method.  Eventually you will find the problem file(s).  The above steps should help you find them a little quicker.

Clean installer will show all (well, most) mods and global hacks as highlighted in red.  Anything highlighted in pink is a duplicate file and can be removed.

Here's a few links to get you started with downloads and custom content installation:

23  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Wrong Pictures on: April 19, 2007, 06:20:44 pm
The quick fix for this is to select the sim, then if the thumbnail doesn't match the one shown, hit CTRL + RIGHT click the thumbnail.  That should refresh the thumbnail.  The other fix is to go to MyDocuments/EAGames/TheSims2 and delete the Thumbnails folder.  This will force the game to create new thumbnails, but it will slow the game down  in build mode or create a family until all the thumbnails have been refreshed.
24  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / A Peculiar Incident Over The Weekend on: April 18, 2007, 07:32:23 pm
Installing a new vidcard to replace the on board graphics can be tricky.  Unfortunately when you buy a new vidcard, the installation instructions were probably written by someone halfway around the world and translated so poorly that they're all but useless.  Anyhow, you need to uninstall the drivers and disable the onboard graphics before installing the new vidcard and drivers. Definitely make a backup copy first though.  I'm guessing you had a software/hardware conflict and that triggered your system to revert to the original drivers and graphics.
25  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Help on: April 18, 2007, 07:11:49 pm
I've had that problem before and ended up scrapping the entire neighborhood to get rid of it.  I just started having it again yesterday.   I'm guessing it's one of two things going on here.  I had just created a new sub-hood using a custom map, which could be the cause.  My second guess is that I've overpopulated my neighborhood.  The only fix I've found aside from scrapping the entire neighborhood is to have all affected sims use the change appearance option from a mirror, you'll get a face back, but it may not be like the original one was.  :smt120

29  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Resolved: Bodyshop not opening...... on: April 15, 2007, 09:19:05 am
One more thing to try, go back to MyDocuments/EAGames/TheSims2 and try moving your SavedSims folder to your desktop and try Bodyshop again.  Don't forget to put it back after though.   If that doesn't work, I'm stumped, short of doing a reinstall.
For SimPe, here's a link to get you started if you take that route:

Edit:  Make sure you're using the Bodyshop version from the newest expansion pack released that you have installed.
