Title: Mod for building on Comm & Apt Lots? (Edited 6:50PM)
Post by: SimCoffee on March 13, 2009, 12:46:03 pm
Long ago I used to have a mod to build and add things to my comm lots while the sim was there. I have AL and all the other EPs, plus H & G.

I'd like a mod where I can alter an apartment complex after my sims move in. I forgot to rip out the swings and sliding board so I can put in a basketball court, and now that my sims are there, the game won't let me.

Also I can't change walls or doors.  If the old hack for "build/buy mode for comm lots worked", it would. Cathair2005 at MTS had a nice one but it does not work for AL, and he/she hasn't updated since BV. Someone on that comment thread said (http://nene.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=132485&c=1&ht=0&page=3&pp=25#startcomments) in Oct 2008 that it does, but I tested it today and it doesn't.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
There is a cheat that does this you open up the cheat box (hold control shift c altogether) and type in boolprop aptsublotspecifictoolsdisabled (exactly as i've written it with the space after boolprop) then put a space and put false then hit enter it will allow you to enable all functions and works with Al and M&G hope this helps

It is a risky process to edit apartments while the residents are loaded on those lots using the above cheat.

What I found is a safer alternative to keep my apartment lots from crashing is to edit them before moving my Sims in. I typically make a copy of an apartment lot (already placed out into the neighborhood) and then edit the original lot to how I want it to be. Then play test the lot to make sure the changes were done properly.

But this is the community lot you're talking about, not the apartment lot. I edit those lots before I send my Sims down to those community lots and make backup copies of the original lots in case.

Yes, this is true. I found that cheat, and edited only the outside area of the trailer park apartment complex. There was a pre-made family living there (one female sim named Jessica) and my own family in another unit.

So while playing my family, I typed in boolprop aptsublotspecifictoolsdisabled false.

Then I removed the kid's playground stuff like the swings and sliding board, and added a basketball court instead. Then I typed in boolprop aptsublotspecifictoolsdisabled true.

Worked fine - on the surface. My sim family played fine, but the other sim (Jessica) whom I wasn't playing would only sit outside of her apartment, and not eat, bathe, and passed out. Jessica was too dumb to go home.

When I exited my family and reopened to play Jessica, the basketball court wasn't there - only the original playground stuff. It's like the game has "two memories" of that apartment lot. I figure this can't possibly be good for the game. I moved Jessica out to the Sim bin.

Even the Prima guide warned against using this cheat during game play on apartment lots. That is why I do the editing on the original lot and then making a copy in case before I move a family in to play test the new changes.

I don't know how this will work exactly on apartment lots if a mod is to be created for the sole purpose of editing while in game play.

A mod can't be made to do this so use the cheat codes if you want to risk it.
