Title: Help me make a Mercat Cross Post by: ladymiriam on July 15, 2009, 07:02:28 pm Does anyone know where I'd be able to find something similar to a mercat cross, please visit this page to see the one in my home town.
http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/towns/townfirst39.html. I just need something like the unicorn on the top and I'll just stick it on a pillar. In case you're interested, the mercat (=market) cross was situated in the middle of a medieval market place, at least in my town and probably elsewhere too, and was the place where transactions would be made and oaths taken. It was kind of a sacred witness to the business of the day in a world where written contracts weren't in use among the masses. Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks. I hadn't really thought about using other animals as my mercat cross is the one in the picture but I really like that lion and I don't have it , so thanks very much for that link.
