91  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Extracting objects on: November 26, 2007, 10:29:54 pm
Thank you! That was exactely the information I needed. :blob5:
But I see how it would be very time consuming... but at least I now have a vague idea on how it's done.

You don't, by any chance, know where I can find a tutorial on that? I looked through the files on MTS2, but didn't find anything yet.
I mean, I can still decide that it's not worth the trouble, but at least I'd like to know if I could do it at all. Cos you're right, my modding experience is very little, some recoloring of bodyshop items like clothes and hair and recoloring objects with SimPE.

And of course there's way cooler cc out there than Maxis objects, but I am crazy about plants and there are some really good ones in BV.

This is also not legal to share any of these items.

I am aware of that and that's not my intention at all. I believe I already said that in my last posting.
92  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Noob Question...How do I...? on: November 26, 2007, 07:17:55 pm
There's two ways, with SimPe and with Bodyshop.

The bodyshop method is just a crutch I use, if I need only one or two clothes changed. It goes as follows: start bs, click on create parts, then clothes, then you can browse the clothes and select the one you want to change to outerwear. Click on export. Then just click on the categories you want the outfit to appear in, write a tooltip, import into game, done. BUT. You just made a duplicate, so you then need to delete the old version. And clear out the projects folder of the game, because there are big files after working with content.

Now the official method. Which is better for recategorising lots of clothes. And which is much easier. For me to explain, that is, because I'm giving you a link with an excellent tutorial: http://hideki.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=87125&highlight=recat

As long as you don't have BV, you can use the Seasons SimPe, but it is unknown, what that version would do to a BV game, so just don't. And choose the backup function when you're asked.
93  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / what is that? -.- on: November 26, 2007, 12:51:35 pm
Apparently I have some issues with BV.

First they give us the possibility we've needed and with another EP they take it away again and expect us to put thousands of files in ONE directory? :brain:
And that in addition to that their bodyshop finds it such hard work to display stuff and isn't able to load in the background or allow to mark multiple files for deletion? :brain:

So, after some of the steam is vented (sorry for that), the buts:
But it worked before! Before I used this SlimBB sim from Engelchen. Then only naked was affected and after adding more meshes, nothing worked anymore. I am no Vulcan, but still I struggle to find some logic in this. :dontknow:

And does the Saved Sims folder count as a subfolder suddenly??
94  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / what is that? -.- on: November 26, 2007, 08:01:51 am
Now I've had it! Not only are my SlimBB clothes useless, now my Star Trek uniforms are starting to vanish, too. They don't use any BB meshes.
Residents of the hood come by my business with clothes I most certainly never told them to wear.

Please, if you want to be helped, read what you are asked and answer the question.

So for the third time: did you take out your downloads and try it without them?
96  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / How do I delete mods without losing game data.... on: November 26, 2007, 07:52:50 am
Game data is not in the downloads folder.

If you think you have mods or hacks you don't know about, run clean installer: http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/

Files that come up red are hacks. If you have for example hacks in your game that are not updated for your current EP, you might run into those problems. Because of this it is reasonable to have a subfolder in your downloads for hacks. The ones you download deliberately. But know that you may inadvertently became infected with hacks through houses (don't download from the Exchange!).

Okay, back to the hacks. You can try at first to move the whole download folder and test, if you still got the problem. If not, it's a download, probably a hack. Then you can delete (or move) the red files with clean installer. While you're at it: the pink files are duplicates, you might wanna delete them, too (you can sort the files by number, if you click on the column where it says 'MD5').
97  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / noob questions :( on: November 26, 2007, 07:17:30 am
It depends on your hardware and how many EP's you have installed.
Do you know what kind of graphics card, memory and cpu your pc has?

Did you try to take out your downloads?
When did the problem first occur?

Wednesday, if it was possible to do my guess is there would be tons of those already available on all the sims 2 communtiy sites.

I tend to not consider that fact as proof, because it would be totally illegal. I know, on the Exchange, Maxis' very own backyard, they share about anything they can get their hands on, copyright or not. They don't have any qualms or honor. Wink But I doubt that those very same people are very good modders of their own, I guess they only collect stuff and then pack it in their houses.

On the other hand, I doubt that any reputable modder would make Maxis objects available for download. I don't want everyone to have objects of EP's they never bought, but  only some for my personal use out of an EP that is legally mine, that's a big difference to me.

:bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

Bu-buh-but *sob* haven't there been extracted (or cloned?) objects from stuff packs already for use without the packs installed?
101  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Help! on: November 24, 2007, 07:50:59 pm
I think yes, if you have a neighborhood with plots at the sea, like Bluewater Village for example. But you can also use custom hoods, I think there have been made several for that very purpose.

But I have never tried it myself, so I can't say with certainty if you can have a beach on a residential lot. But I guess you can always create a community lot and then change it with the changelotzoning cheat.
102  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / what is that? -.- on: November 24, 2007, 04:52:33 pm
I got this bug, too!! :cussing:
I have a SlimBB guy with a showerproof skintone.
I have a lot of SlimBB recolors, including my own, that have worked well since I first downloaded the meshes. At first, the everyday, formal a.s.o. wear was working like before. Then I noticed that the naked stage was invisible like in the pic above.

I redownloaded the naked mesh and made damn sure that it's in the downloads. Checked with clean installer for duplicates. But then the unexpected happened: Not only was my supposedly gorgeous SlimBB still invisible when naked, but in addition none of the clothes showed up anymore. Except undies. I wonder when they will decide to go, too. Poor guy. Fortunately my Aikea Guinea Meshes still work, so he can wear those for the time being. Maxis meshes are just too unsexy.

So the sixty-four thousand dollar question is: how is it that you add a thing and another thing vanishes?

The files I added are MESH_Ju_slimmer270805.package and 5fddd2ba_SlimBBnaked.package. Am I missing another mesh?

Oh, I nearly forgot: I already tried the 'put the meshes in Saved Sims folder trick'.

Help, anybody? :-?
103  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Extracting objects on: November 24, 2007, 03:53:58 pm
I know there are lots of tutorials on the how, but before I go and immerse myself in them, I wanted to ask if it is at all possible to extract objects from one EP I own and use them in a game without that EP installed? For personal use only, of course. And is it very time consuming per object?

I'd like to have a number of objects fom BV, but the EP is so annoying as a whole and is slowing everything down, it's unbelievable! I am aware that objects with certain functionality like the voodoo doll or the wishing thingie won't be easily "copied", but I mostly like the tropical and asian plants.
I am also aware that I'll have to wait for the new SimPe, but it doesn't hurt to know now and help me decide if I'll keep BV a while longer or not.

Wednesday though I encourage people to use the search feature that was the first post that person did so there was no need to be that hard on that person and giving lecture is not needed either.

You're right, that was too harsh and I'm sorry.
I edited my posting.
105  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Placement of items on diagonal wall on: November 23, 2007, 05:08:37 pm
You should be able to place windows and doors diagonally without any cheat. IF the window/door has a diagonal mesh. Far as I know, all of Maxis objects do, but there are some custom meshes that don't.

So... what kind of windows/doors do you try to place, original or custom? Did this happen suddenly, or only recently? After installation of a new EP? And did you try to take out your downloads and try again?
