Title: Skintone help?
Post by: twinklelilstar on January 03, 2010, 05:49:03 pm
I have the Dune 'Pale' Skin from Teru_k at MTS and this problem has happened for a while, but now I am fed up. The skin on children only affects the face and the rest of the body doesn't match. As seen in the picture below

I have tried re downloading and deleting the CACHE files, but it still occurs in ALL households and ALL children that inherit this skintone. What could be the issue?

EDIT: It also happens in CAS, and only to children. Toddlers are fine.

Since skintones are comprised of separate head and body textures, it could be teru_k mismatched the skintone used for the children. As I don't have TS2 installed on this computer at the moment, I can't check to see for myself.

You can check it yourself though by opening Bodyshop and creating a new project using that skintone. Go to 'Create Genetics, choose that skintone, and choose 'Export' or whatever the option is. It'll slap all everything into it's own folder within 'EA Games\The Sims 2\Projects.'

Thank you! I was going to try that, but I didn't know if someone else had been through this same thing. There aren't any comments on it from MTS, but you guys are so smart haha

If it IS a mix up, how could I fix it? I love the skintone and don't really want to give it up, but I have to age my sims from a toddler to a teen because of it D:

I'd usually say just ask the original creator, but teru_k doesn't seem to be active in the TS2 community that much these days.

Doing it yourself though, it should be possible to use an image editing program to try to match one texture to the other, such as adjusting hue, saturation, and so forth. It's not too hard, as I've done it myself quite a few times.

If you need a good image editing program, Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net/) and Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) are two good ones to use. They are both free and rival Photoshop in terms of features.

I'm familiar with GIMP haha I've added tattoos to quite a few skintones using it (I haven't uploaded them though lol)

Couldn't I save one of the other skintone files as the child one and replace it? I believe I've done that before....hmm I'll experiment :) Thanks again Jenna

EDIT: I did that, it worked. All better now

You're welcome. :D

You can swap between teens and adults, but toddlers, children, and elders use a differently-proportioned skintone texture. Have fun, and try not to rip too much of your hair out. Hah!

I just realized something! Still, all over the sims that had that skintone won't be fixed, because essentially I just created a different package file...There isn't a way to fix that, is there...?

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. Heh. But...

There is a way to fix it, if you're feeling brave. You would have to use SimPE (http://sims.ambertation.de/) to swap the file of the botched skintone with the fixed one. It's not that difficult, so search around for a tutorial.

Alternatively, you could use SimPE to replace the skintone of your current Sims with the fixed one you made. We have a tutorial for that right over here (http://www.insimenator.org/index.php/topic,18184.0.html).

Second Alternatively, you can use Christianlov's Custom Skintone Selector right here. (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=284572)
It won't fix genetics, but if you only care for looks, it should do what you want it to.   :p
