16  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / I found a way to connect the three neighborhoods together. (Serious Thread) on: March 14, 2006, 03:13:55 pm

This is the closest thing I can get the neighborhoods to connect.

I'm still experimenting with it. So far I haven't had any problems yet except the Summerdream household being bugged out at the beginning, it's not anymore.

I've only been playing with it for a few days. But I guess I should put a disclaimer.

Don't get me wrong - I think it's a real neat idea and I know a lot of people would like to have their sims interact with the sims in the other hood. I've also read a lot (though I don't understand all of it) that moving populated lots into the sim bin and having sims cross neighborhoods can cause a lot of wiggy things to happen. I just think people need to be aware that there are potential problems - like unlinked character files - that could occur, or that they should watch out for. I'm sure there will be many adventuresome people that will still try your method out, even with a disclaimer.

And what does this do to the character files?  How many character files were in each hood prior to doing this and how many after? Was there an explosion of unlinked character files?

Considering moving occupied lots into the sim bin is known to create all kinds of problems, I don't know if it's such a good idea to be advocating this without stronger warinings. How long have you played a neighborhood in this condition? I think this wouldn't be so good for the long term health of the hood.

It's inventive thinking and thanks for sharing, but I really think you need to advocate more caution to people and explain what the risks are to their hood when they try this. I certainly wouldn't do this with any hood that I didn't want to loose.

Thank you so much for taking the time to type all this out. I often feel lost when people start talking techie about computers. You explained things real well so even a luddite like me could understand.

the choices are adjust (for the multiples hack)... meditate, invite headmaster, throw party, groups, and call. (she has a cellphone)

If you have the choice of "adjust" then you didn't remove all the hacks and you're not testing just Inteen. You get invite headmaster and throw party by clicking on the teen and not on a phone? Sounds like you have other hacks in there are well.

Then the only other suggestion I would make is that you try downloading it again to see if the file got corrupted during the download process.

What are the choices when you click on your teen - it doesn't say "inteen".

Open for Business is the expansion pack that just came out yesterday.

Did you read the instruction manual that came with the download?

so i should only remove the hacks? my custom clothes, and hair meshes and things are safe?

No custom content is 100% safe Wink but these are less likely to cause problems - provided that they don't alter behaviour. For example, Monique's computer, while an object, alters game behaviour, so think of something like that as a hack. If you just have a computer that's been recolored, that probably won't cause a problem.

If it is a Maxis mesh that has been recolored (shape is identical to a Maxis item and doesn't require a mesh) this is also less likely to cause a problem. New meshes - beds that are a different shape than the Maxis items - might cause a problem depending on how the creator did the mesh and copied the functions.

Start with taking the hacks out and leaving your custom hairs, clothes and furniture. See if you still have the problem. If you don't have the problem, add one hack in at a time and test it until the problem reappears - then you will know which one is causing the problem.

You haven't installed Open for Business, right?

what if i kept the inteenimator out until i wanted to impregnate a teen... if she were pregnant and i removed the hack would she continue to be pregnant, or would the hack have to stay in the downloads folder?

Do NOT remove Inteen while a teen is pregnant unless you really want to screw-up your game. It may take a little effort and time, but if you want to use Inteen, I suggest you test it with each hack, one at a time, to determine where the problem is.

If you haven't done this before and want some help, list here what hacks you do have in your downloads folder. Some of us might recognize a known conflict.

Do you have any other custom content or mods? What you described sounds like a jump bug from a conflict. Are you sure you downloaded and installed the correct Inteen version? Did you have any previous Inteen versions installed? Is it a custom bed or a Maxis bed?

Try playing the game with ONLY Inteen installed and see if you still get the problem.

I love all your stuff over at MTS2 but sometimes looking for all the stuff for it can be difficult with all those posts over in the genetics section. I'm so excited that you have your own spot over here now!

Yeah! Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley
27  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Overrides Game Behavior on: January 25, 2006, 12:27:44 am
That's what mods/hacks do - they alter the game Maxis made. I think the warning is especially useful if you see things there that you DIDN'T personally install (meaning they hitched a ride in a lot you installed).

I think a big problem when people starting using the exchange to share lots, they didn't know that hacks got packaged along with the rest of the lot detail so when people installed the downloaded lot, they were installing a hack they didn't know existed in the file.

It's a good idea to look thru the mod list when you start the game and look for anything you weren't expecting to be there.
