Title: Falling in love with self
Post by: metasci on January 23, 2007, 02:52:14 pm
I've searched the forums and I can't find if this has been addressed before, if so, could you show me where it is?

I have a problem with sims falling in love with themselves.  It has happened in the past but lately it seems to be occuring more often.

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem and knows how to correct it.

Thanks

Did you use the Insimenator's Quick Relations Adjustor?

I have had random times when sims wanted to be friends with themselves... but that was probably a result of messing around with SimPE to adjust relationships. (BEFORE I installed the InSimenator...)  Don't remember exactly where I saw the bug fix, but I think it was on More Awesome Than You...

Yes I did (quick relations adjustor).  Sometimes it works just fine and then other times the self love thing happens.

Thanks for the info.  Sometimes mine also want to flirt with themselves and a whole lot more... it doesn't really cause any problems but I would like to fix it if I can.

I once had a sim who refused to acknowledge the death of another sim...he kept wanting social interactions with the dead sim, who was one of his lovers....that was before I had ANY custom content or hacks at all.

There use to be a bug with the handheld game which would make sims falls in love with themselves.  Not quite sure if this was ever fix but a fix for that is available at MATY site.

I'll bet your sim has a double. I'm not sure how it happens but I just trashed all my hoods because there were multiple instances of no less than 15 sims in all of them. If you open your hood in SimPe and check the name list (Sim Descriptions) you will most likely find this is the case.

Micco - the "shadow sims" (what i call them) occur as a result of the game running the sim as an NPC when on community lots - at least that is the best guess I have.  Why this occurs, I have no idea.  But like you, I resort to the deleteAllCharacters cheat as a solution.  The bug is exaccerbated by the remote control car,  handheld game, and cellphones, even after applying the patches that reputedly fix this sort of problem.  Another problem is that visiting and phoning Sims are on lots even when you cannot see them; specifically I mean even after they have left the lot by the teleporter they may be stuck on the lot or the phone is ringing when you save the lot.  In these cases it seems a 2nd version of the Sim might occur.

There was a similar problem with the original game.  It does my heart good to see a familiar bug from those bygone days *wipes tear of nostalgia from eye*

Shadow my a**; a second version? You want to try for 6 copies of at least 3 of them; got really weird when three of them decided to show up in the same place at the same time as the real one (game locked up on save :( )

Once, when I cruised through the sims browser I saw 3 or 4 of a single sim, and noted the instance numbers - I then spent a few hours looking through the memories of all the Sims and changed the connected memories to the one I knew to be the original.  I thought I had out smarted the bug pretty easily.  I then carefully culled the duplicates out of the game files and fired up game... It was obvious I neglected to do something quite right, for though I had be most careful in linking all the memories of the assorted Sims towards the original, I had not though to duplicate all the memories of the "shadow" sims.  My many hours of work was for nothing, the Sim was never right again after that.  Some how the game had linked all the memories of the various copies in a way I cannot understand, and crucial memories for my Sim went missing.  Needless to say, the curetment had failed to effect a cure.  I ended up committing a pogrom on the whole neighbourhood; the first of what was to become a regular feature of my tyrranical overlordship of Pleasantview and neighbouring towns.

Greetings. The Master Control Program has chosen you to serve your system on the Game Grid. Those of you who continue to profess a belief in the Users will receive the standard substandard training, which will result in your eventual elimination. Those of you who renounce this superstitious and hysterical belief will be eligible to join the warrior elite of the MCP. You will each receive an identity disk. Everything you do or learn will be imprinted on this disk. If you lose your disk or fail to obey commands, you will be subject to immediate de-resolution. That will be all.

Thanks everyone for posting your comments on this little freaky situation I have going on.  I think I will just let them stay in love with themselves and keep playing the same neighborhood since I have spent so much time getting it just the way I want it with some pretty genetics going on.  Perhaps if I can get them interested in someone else they will lose the self interest.  I would hate to get rid of some of these characters.  If I knew how to upload a few pics of them I would show them to you all (might get hubby to show me how, he's a lot younger than me and while I could figure it out, it would be easier and less frustrating for me to just ask him ).:h3lp:

Possible future pics: I call them the Windersnaven Clan (named after the mysterious invisible Windersnavens in another game I play.

Again everyone, thanks for your replies.

I found this topic too close to home not to comment, lol. It confused the PANTS off of me to see one of my sims want to be friends with herself. It was actually Isadora from my One Life series. I created a her as a "vampire" (just skin), and a then created her again as normal, both in CAS. I named one Isadora (the "vampire") and the other Isadora2. I wasn't sure if the game meant the vamp Isadora wanted to be friends with her counterpart or what. Talk about split personalities or being conceited! Geesh! What'll they be asking for next, lol!
