61  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Fun with Plant People on: May 04, 2007, 01:31:13 pm
I suppose naming a plantsim Rutabaga would be a little odd.  Ok he could go by Rudy, but still...
62  Simmers' Paradise / Tutorials / A Work-around to Sim-created Paintings Reverting To Sunset Design problem on: April 23, 2007, 09:38:56 pm
I can test that now...  I just uninstalled Pets.

The bad news is that I HAVE seen the problem again, even with Pets installed.

I knew I should be skeptical.

I must admit that it took some work to get it to happen, but it did happen.

Don't put paintings in your sims inventory when on a community lot if that sim is a manager on the lot.  That's how I broke it.  I should also mention that I saved and exited while the sims were still at the community lot.  I probably should have sent everyone home first.

I'll post here again with whatever I may find out about this with no Pets installed.

I would suspect that once they addressed the issue it should be OK in the subsequent releases too.  Key operatives are SUSPECT and SHOULD. Wink
63  Simmers' Paradise / Tutorials / A Work-around to Sim-created Paintings Reverting To Sunset Design problem on: March 14, 2007, 01:20:46 am
Does indeed seem to be fixed with pets now.  I've tested all I can and can't break it.

65  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Corrupted file question on: February 22, 2007, 01:13:22 pm
Naturally when I say delete any files remaining on drive c: I am referring to any residual Sims 2 files that might have been left behind in the Sims2 folder.
Delete any  Sims2 files and the folders too for a clean reinstallation.

(hmm i tried to edit the previous post and ended up unintentionally doubleposting).
66  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Corrupted file question on: February 22, 2007, 11:23:52 am
If the problem is really a corrupt file you want to MANUALLY go in and delete any files remaining on the c: drive after you have uninstalled.

IF it is just a corrupt file problem this will fix it.

Then you can reinstall and be back where you were... and NO don't fiddle with that program you think caused the problem.  You should be able to manually do what you were doing before.  I seldom trust applications to modify anything on my hard drive for me unless I'm pretty sure just what they're up to (and therefore how to UNDO anything they might break for me).

Uninstall doesn't always get rid of all the files even though you'd think it would.
67  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Pets Patch Released on: February 12, 2007, 03:06:02 am
Quote from: jordi;555417
The CD patch worked on my DVD Version.

For anyone who gets a failure error message from the patcher — try restoring objects.package from compressed.zip on the original disk. In some games (like mine!) objects.package had become corrupted, causing the patch to fail.

Thanks for the tip!

I got an installation error along with the ominous "you may need to uninstall and reinstall Pets" message.

This saved me major headaches.

The pathname for installing objects.package would have been a useful tip too, but I managed to find it myself.

For anyone else getting the error and needing that pathname it's

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Pets\TSData\Res\Objects

Thank you for saving me some struggling Jordi. Wink

73  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 FAQ's / What's Up With The Real Estate Office? on: November 03, 2006, 09:27:54 pm
This can be a little confusing.

The Real Estate Office is nothing more than a community lot building.

You don't even need it to sell real estate.

To sell real estate all you need to do is price the deed for sale.

You can sell it from a community lot or even from a home business lot.

Look at the deed in the screenshot. It happens to be the deed for the Real Estate Office.

It could be any deed though.

To sell it, all you have to do is remove it from your sim's inventory and then price it for sale with the pricing tool. You coud have any number of deeds for sale.

Remember that if a sim you play buys the deed, that sim will own the property now.

If a townie should buy the lot, you get the money for the sale, but the lot immediately becomes available for purchase again.
74  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 FAQ's / How do I Sell Time? on: November 03, 2006, 08:57:53 pm
Some businesses don't rely on merchandise.

These businesses are best run selling tickets from the ticket machine.

A business where sims play games with one another might be good for this.

You'll have other ideas as you play.
75  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 FAQ's / Badges Take Forever! My Sim Wants a Servo Now! on: November 03, 2006, 08:19:30 pm
Consider having one sim in your neighborhood get the gold robotics badge.

Have that sim make a community lot business.

Now have that same sim make a servo, or two (number doesn't really matter).

Have your sim place those servos for sale.

Have the sim close the business before ever selling a servo.

  Send that sim home.

Once home, stop playing that sim.  Save.

Go to a sim family now who you want to own a servo.

Have them visit the new lot and buy a servo or two.

Repeat the last two steps as many times as you'd like.

This can be done with any item... flowers, paintings (one of a kind!), photos, ... or anything.

You can supply a whole neighborhood with only one sim having to get a badge, and using only a limited number of items.

You might change your mind about doing this later, but it is a quick way to spread things around in a new neighborhood.

Every time non-owning sims visit the lot the stock will be replenished every time.

Note that if the sim owning the business opens the business and begins selling items, he will have to restock.
