46  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Nvidia DDS...new question on: June 05, 2007, 06:17:05 pm
You said this was in the wizard

Assuming everything is in and correct (click on options, below left  at the first screen) you should see this or something a lot like it:

You can also perform a system test there that should tell you more about what's happening.

I have been using the dds utilities all along without a problem with my NVIDIA card, but it's an older card.

Looks like they have rewritten the utilities, and I doubt that it would work with my card.

If you are in the same or similar shape as me, you might want their older utilities download which you can get by scrolling to the bottom here:

Thanks for all your comments.

I never thought it would get more than 10 downloads or so.

Maybe I'm not so alone in my opinion after all. Wink

I got tired of having only one choice in the game.

So I made some I like.

Maybe others would like some variety too?

Posting them here just in case.

The one just out of view is the Maxis classic.  The other two are included in the .ZIP

I have all the expansions, none of the fun packs.  You will need CEP to view this object in your game.  Shows up with the easel, oddly enough. Wink

'Course, sweetpea is actually a flower...but then flower names are great for Plantsims too.

Still vegetation.... I didn't mean to focus on vegetables in particular.

They are indeed flowers.

If you have windows simply copy the neighborhood files to a different location  and you have a backup.

Just copy the N00* (where the * is the number of the neighborhood file) from your neighborhoods folder to whatever location you want to keep it.  A CD makes great sense.

I could swear sim women say "buttwash" when they're on the phone.

Why is beyond me. Wink

I've heard some German in there too sometimes!  Particularly on the television.

I can almost make out a toddler saying "wtf" when he's using the logic puzzle toy.  That's hilarious. Tongue
56  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Can you play without cheats? on: May 11, 2007, 09:40:04 am
OFB made it so money is pretty easy to get.  If my sims are too broke, I usually have them run a business for a while until things get better.  I don't make all my sims very wealthy.  I like having some differences between families.  I even keep a few "broke" families around.

I've noticed that the less shortcuts I take with a particular sim lot, the more satisfaction I seem to get out of it.

Using the Insim to me isn't always cheating.  It's one thing to give your sims badges they didn't earn and quite another to use game code to get your sims out if a stupid situation that you didn't really intend. (like when they get stuck maybe).

The game is what you make it.  If you are bored and your sims are all pretty much doing the same things all the time; if you aren't happy with that it's your own fault! Smiley

I let my sims take risks, I always try to have at least one doing as much in the game as I can find for them to do.  Be a vampire, be a werewolf, become a plantsim or a zombie (uh do i need to mention that I have all the expansions?), or be rich or poor.

Having said that, ideally my neighborhood would be balanced with enough different families doing different things so I can match my mood when I play and the game never gets too boring.

Well I think I've answered the original question plus some maybe. Smiley

Dang!  Coffee is good!
57  Simmers' Paradise / Tutorials / A Work-around to Sim-created Paintings Reverting To Sunset Design problem on: May 10, 2007, 08:51:44 am
OK I checked and the answer is:

IT AIN'T FOOLPROOFLY FIXED YET.

I just bought a batch o' paintings in one neighborhood and hauled them home to the main neighborhood and when I started the game next time I had four freshly reverted sunset paintings where there had been painstakingly posed and painted still-lifes before.

Particularly if you are doing still lifes( or any painting you want to keep really) this could make your life miserable, so my workaround should give you things to keep in mind.

Play it safe and don't haul paintings you think  you can't afford to lose between neighborhoods...make copies where you can.

They might have fixed some of the problem but they sure didn't lick it.-

For anyone wondering what expansions might be affected...  I have basegame through Seasons.

I guess it's like those tomatoes in my garden where one does a kind of mutant budding thing off of another. LOL It happens rarely but it does happen. Was the second one a vegetable too. Smiley

Yep.  A boy and a girl plantsim babies... or toddlers I guess would be more accurate.

My newest plantsim just had twins.  I wouldn't have just assumed they could, but lo and behold! Tongue

I don't feel so bad about naming Cuke and Ghurkin now.

Hey Popeye had Sweetpea back in the day.

How else would anyone expect us to name sims that look like they just stepped out of the label of a can of vegetables? Wink
