Title: Wish me luck
Post by: Mooncat on June 08, 2009, 01:29:58 pm
I need some serious luck.

I've been smoking for 8 years, since I was 13.  But...

I think I'm gonna try to quit smoking.

I've tried before.. tried cold turkey - that worked as well as a lead balloon trying to fly.

Tried the gum - just made me sick.

Tried the Chantex pills - had an allergic reaction to it..

So all that's left is the patch.. which I'm gonna get once I get the money.

Wish me luck!!!

Well it's not easy to quit smoking today, worst than before. But I guess it's possible. It takes a lot of will! So, hope you'll succeed. Drink a lot of water!  :D

Good luck, pickles! Its all about mind-power. You can do it. When I was helping my husband quit, I would always tell him to keep an ashtray out that was full of butts and ashes. And when he wanted a cigarette, I would tell him to imagine eating all that crap out of the ashtray. It works wonders. Good luck!!

*hacks up a lung* Why do you want to quit smoking? Don't you love the disgusted looks people give you? The stench of cigarette smoke in everything around and on you? The fact that you can't run more than ten feet without being winded?

...pssh; You're no longer one of the cool kids.

I'm sending you psychic reinforcements.  3thumb

I've quit 3 times the last one was pure H**L.  1headwall

Now I'm not working and my son says he will cut me off at the knees (no more walking money) if I put another cig in my mouth.

Now I channel my cumplusiveness into my Sims 2 game and this site.

It's definitely NOT easy.

My plan is to cut back on how many cigarettes I smoke per day 'til I quit, well, I've only had 3 today - compared to the usual 10 or so - and right now I'm going through a nic fit.. I have a headache, a powerful craving for a smoke, and I feel like biting someone's head off.

I'm trying.. I just gotta keep on pushin' through.

When I quit smoking a couple years ago, we bought patches starting with the strongest one and gradually weaned off the patches over time. We threw out all of the ashtrays and cigs. Put the money away someplace so we don't get tempted.

It will be tough. Focus on something else. If you get a nic fit, go out for a walk or do something to keep your mind off the nic fits and cigs.

Hang in there!  ;D

nah, nevermind all this cutting down crap - you've just got to go for it cold turkey.

Worked for me - not saying it wasn't hard, but 12 years on I'm fag (cig!) free ('cept when I'm drunk and there's someone I can skank one off but that's a different story!)

Quitting is easy. I did it about 20 times just yesterday.  :p

Good luck Pickles. I really hope you make it. The first step is really wanting to quit.

I quit cold turkey for over ten years and then started back up for some stupid reason. I'm at the point now where I'm ready to quit again though. I'm doing it slowly though. I'm down to a half a pack a day from a whole pack a day now.

Seeing Brat in a hospital gown has helped scare away the urge too.  :p

my mom    got Chantix(i think thats what its called) from her doctor and that worked until my grandma died about a month into her taking the pills...its kinda(really) expensive though.

I tried to quit cold turkey but then i figured i don't realy like turkey anyway, so I told myself only to smoke when i realy realy need one.
So when  my mind tells me i need a smoke i question that and either i take one or i don't, now somedays i smoke only one or two and somedays i dont even smoke at all.

Anyway this is working for me and you just have to find something that is working for you  :D

Thank you guys for all your support.

I will admit that when I tried to quit this past time along with the others, I wasn't going at it with everything I had.  I was talking to my boyfriend last night and he asked me if I'd quit smoking. "It's bad for your health and I want to be with you for as long as I can," he told me.  Plus, I'm turning my life around; changing it for the better.  So last night, I promised myself and my other half.. There will be no trying this time.  I WILL quit, with God as my witness.

You can count on that.

Your determination shows that you can do it.

I didn't know this thread was here or I would have added my 2 cents sooner. LOL. I just stopped one day out the blue no plans or anything and I had been smoking for over 15 years. It has been nearly 3 months since I have smoked and in my house more than half (4) are smokers. Surprisingly I haven't fallen off the wagon. I think it has more to do with just that I was tired of smoking. Only you can make that choice, over the years this and that person nagged me and made me feel bad because I smoked and it never deterred me. So I said all of this to say that if YOU are ready then you will stop and it won't be so hard.

I AM ready.  Not only do I want to save money, I want to live a healthier life.  I want to spend as long as I can with my boyfriend and my wonderful InSim friends and real life friends.

It sure would save you money. People that smoke about a pack a day blow about $1600 or more a year, on something that kills them. Plus, other people can influence you to quit. Your boyfriend is right to encourage you to drop the habit, because over the years, your lungs will heal and you will be a lot healthier. About 3 years ago, my husband said he wanted to quit, but he didn't commit to it. I had to FORCE him and eventually he did it. So the influence does help.

Use whatever you have to in order to quit. Take up a hobby, go out and do something fun with your boyfriend. Just keep yourself busy and pray for strength. It'll happen if you want it to.

I can't get together with my boyfriend considering I'm in Indiana and he's in Georgia.. but we still make it work.. until we can figure out some way to get the money for him to come visit.

I just prayed to God for strength through this rough task.

And it's like hawnsimmer told me in a PM: "Do it for yourself first; the rest will then fall easily into place."

“Let us not become weary in doing good; for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” –Galatians 6:9

Heh, I didn't know both our boyfriends were in Georgia.  :p

I already said good luck on Facebook, but more good luck your way and you'll be able to do it. :)

I just had a delicious dinner, but now I have a craving for a cigarette. I know I can do this.. nobody said it'd be easy, but I can and will do it. Period. End of story.

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

EDIT:

Well, the sick feeling from not smoking is going away.  And it wasn't even that bad.  I can definitely get through this. I just need to keep my faith, hope, and positive attitude.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” –Galatians 5:22
