Title: Needing a Little Bit of Help
Post by: CB2001 on February 01, 2007, 03:41:51 am
I'm trying to work on a Sim of Mary McDonnall from Battlestar Galactica.  Right now, the Sim shown in the pictures is still a work in progress (I think I've found a better hairdo to use and I'm still trying to make the right adjustments to the face, which I think I may need to fix the nose).  I need some opinions and a bit of help to try to adjust the Sim to appear even more like her.  Let me know what you think.  Thank you.  :worship:

Its good so far! :) You could make the lips less wide, lower the eyebrows (and possibly change the eyebrows to one by Helaene), make the face wider by a click or two and bring the cheekbones forward a bit. Hope that helps!

Thanks, xnymphetaminex.  I've made the suggested adjustments.  I think  may have done it too much on the cheeks and lowered the eyebrows down too low, though.

Also, seeing that there are times where we see Mary McDonnall wearing glasses on the show (which so happen to be her glasses in real life), I'm wondering if I should include glasses or not (the only pair I could find that closely matches the ones she wears are a pair that is a Maxis in-game pair).

Also, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe the hair that I am currently using fits the Sim better than some of the others I've found (the only thing I have an issue with is the hair texture, which I'm sure there's a better one for it).

BTW, I'm using an "older person" makeup mask on the sim to make the Sim appear to be close to the age of the actress without having to use the older adult age (I don't believe that Mary McDonnall is old enough to fall under the older adult age appearance that is a part of the game).  So those lines on the side of her mouth are intentional.  And I've also change the type of eyes I'm using (a pair from 3dconsortium).

it looks better. maybe the skintone is kinda off because the source pics are well lighted but she looks kinda pale in RL :(

xnymphetaminex- Thanks.

summer_wine- That's understandable.  I'm mainly going off of the episodes of Battlestar Galactica as a resouces, but I can also use the Q&A interview videos that are featured on the Sci-Fi Channel's website.  I'll try looking for a better skin to closely match.

Do you think that the "mature age" makeup mask that I've got on the Sim, the one I was talking about earlier, looks correct for the Sim?  Or should I remove it and not use it?  I think the Sim fits more with the use of the mask, but I could be wrong in my opinion.

Title: Some skin tone tests for my Sim
Post by: CB2001 on February 05, 2007, 09:39:34 pm
Here are some pictures of several skin tones I am considering on using for the Sim.  Ironically enough, one of them was made for a couple of BSG-related Sim characters.  Never the less, here are some of the ones I am considering on using.

i like helaene's 0103 skintone. the make up is good. it doesn't really maker her look that old, just gives her face character, i like it. :)

That's good.  I'm glad to see that the Sim's coming out better than it began.  I apologize about the glasses in the skintone tests (is it just me, or does Mary in RL looks even more beautiful with glasses than she does without them?  I think it may be just me).

I agree with SummerWine on the skintone. The lighting in BodyShop does make stuff look duller/darker, so it might help if you load her in the game and take some pictures there. :)

Okay, but it may be a while before I get around to it. I'll try out the Helaene 0103 skin in game (make the screencaps during the Sims' CAS creation menu) and get those pictures up when I can.

Here's a new picture in-game from the CAS family creation program.

Also, I've included a picture of another BSG Sim I'm working on, one of Kandyse McClure, who plays Dualla on the show.  I started this Sim a while ago, but I have never put it up online for download because I was still trying to get the right skintone for her (the one I selected for it is the one I think best fits the Sim.  I can't remember the name of the skintone, but I do feel it actually matchs the actress's skintone).  You don't have to comment on the Dualla sim, I'm just posting it as sort of an added bonus.

The skin looks good :) I think you need to widen her face and possibly make the nose smaller (in width).

Okay, widen the face a little bit more and nostral width smaller.  Got it.  :D

Here is a new updated picture with the changes.  If I make the face any wider, it'd be to the end of the selectable option on width.  I did two clicks on the nose width to make it smaller.  I think everything is as spot on as possible.  Of course, I could be wrong about that.  Just let me know what you guys think, any other changes that should be made, etc.  I forgot to thank you guys for giving me the necessary feedback.  Thank you very much.  :)

I've been looking for Battlestar stuff forever! So I'm glad to see this thread.
Your Dualla looks especially good.  I'm not so sure about Roslin, though... she's pretty difficult to capture.  Myabe I'll take a stab at her if you'd like the help?

Do you have sims for the other characters as well?  The Baltar on MTS2 is pretty good.

First off, I'm glad you like the Dualla sim (the funny thing is, the Sim did not start its life as a Dualla Sim, just as a misc. sim I was toying around with).  Well, I'm mainly working off of feedback and the episodes I have that feature the character of Roslin.  To be honest, at this point, I think that is the best and the most close likeness I can get to the actress.  But if you want to help, please let me know in what way you mean and we'll see where things go from there.

Do you have sims for the other characters as well? The Baltar on MTS2 is pretty good.

I have both the Baltar and Six from MTS2, the Jamie Bamber (I think it was either from the exchange or MTS2), a Starbuck (from the Exchange) and the Boomer (Exchange).  A user at the Ragnar Anchorage BBoard liked how both the Roslin and Dualla Sims looked and told me he was hoping I would do Adama and Tigh next (though I wouldn't mind doing them, I think Adama would be the most difficult to do due to how the skin on EJO's face is.  I think that would be difficult to correctly simulate).

Both the Roslin and Dualla Sim are going to be used in a test comic I'm working on for a fan fic series I'm trying to get off the ground (the comic is mainly consisting of screencaps from various episodes and has two {possibly three} sequences that use "The Sims 2").  I'm also trying to make a couple of Cylon Centurion variations and am hoping to find any other users that have made Centurion or Centurion-like Sims for "The Sims 2" but do not require any content above NightLife (I have only University and NightLife EPs.  No plans on purchasing OFB).  A lot of work going into it.  But I do hope to make both the Roslin and Dualla Sim characters available for download.

Title: Your doing well..

Seriously well done so far! She looks very tricky to capture, and the resemblance is there.

I think you should:
*Make the nose tip point upwards a little bit
*Make her lips turn down slightly
*Give her some darkish lipstick (not a gloss, too shiney) - try either IcedMango or Helane
*Change the hair - possibly to XM45 (http://www.xmsims.com/sims2/ehtm/hair/hair45.htm) - basicly so that it covers the forehead, will make comparing them easier :)

Sorry for the long list!! Hope it helps you :D You are doing very well!

No problem.  All constructive feedback is welcome.  I'll try to make the changes and include the pictures soon.  It may take some time, because I am a little bogged down by my school work and whatnot.

Here's a new picture with the updates xnymphetaminex suggested.  I must admit, I like the lipstick I went with for the Sim, but the hair you suggested definately doesn't seem to fitt the Sim IMO.  Of course, the opinion is to the gallery.

The picture was taken within Bodyshop.  Don't have a lot of time to load the game.  The lipstick used is Helaene 901 Kissable.

It's no problem.  I actually like the hair I originally was using from the previous pictures.  I think that is the closest that I could ever find to what Mary's hair is like in real life (if its not like that in RL, it's been like that in both "Battlestar Galactica" and "Dances with Wolves").  :)

This will be the final version.  I've decided to stick with the hair I went with in the beginning because I posted pictures of the Sim over at a BSG Fan BBoard and users commented on how dead-on the hair of the Sim was.  So, this is will be the final version of the Sim (there is always the possibility of doing a 2.0 version later on).  This will be the Sim featured in the test comic for my BSG-related machinima comic book fan fiction series I'm working on and will be made available sometime soon.

If there is anything else anyone would like to contribute, by all means do so.

I thank everyone who were willing to help out.  I owe you all big time.  :)

I think it looks great...the only suggestion I have is to place the eyes just a little closer together!  Its awsome...a great likeness!

Thank you Ashtaroth.  I'll make the alteration for the Sim (however, I will be sticking with the following Sim in the picture when it comes to the test comic of my machinima comic book fan fiction series.  I've already finished taking the pictures using this Sim for the dream sequence and I would hate to have to go back and reshoot those shots again).  But the alteration will be made for the Sim for the downloadable version.
