Did you add any mods to the game?

That answers my question about DizzyMental's mods. You can hunt for them at MATY. But that does not solve your problem still. Do you have enough memory to handle the game itself?

AND don't double-post please. Use Modify to edit your post the next time.

Never mind about MATY. It's a site where a Sims 2 community hangs out at. It's Pescado's site where he primarily releases a legion of mods for Sims 2 and started releasing an all-in-one mod to fix the issues with Sims 3 on a daily basis.

What kind of video card did you buy and how much memory did you now have to run Sims 3? Hopefully the card is on the supported video card list that EA provides on its site.

Nvidia released a driver update around the middle of June. Install that update. It helped clear up a couple of issues I was having with the game.

No, that does not seem to work. I have a (brand new) GeForce 9600GT with freshly updated drivers (and temperatures monitored, so overheating is not an issue either). I'm guessing this has to do something with the game's coding, since it only freezes between 1AM-3AM. Which is simply weird.

Any further suggestions?

ETA: Apparently, it is triggered by the Awesome mode itself: read here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,15536.0.html). Until Pescado somehow fixes it, I'd much rather deal with the lags than with EA's stupidity. :p

I used his latest build of the awesome mod and haven't encountered any serious lag from around 1 AM to 3 AM.

Although there is one thing to try:

Go into:

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

Or if you have Vista, I'm guessing it would look similar to the above.

Delete:

CASPartCache
compositorCache
scriptCache
simCompositorCache

These are the cache files to delete before starting up the game whether yo have the awesome mod installed or not.

If the game crashes at around 10% on the loading screen, start it up again until the game loads fully to the Saved Games screen. Keep trying until you can get the game to load completely. You can delete the cache files in between the attempts.

I know that Pescado is looking into a number of things related to the odd crashes. But I'm not sure if it has to do with the mod itself but the system on which the game is installed. I still get crashes, but I still can get the game to load with patience.

I always delete the cache files before starting either games, and it does work...for the very first night. Then, after the second, the lag comes back.
It might be because my 2GB of RAM is not enough, but frankly I have spent enough money on the video card, so until it is absolutely necessary to update, I will deal with the lag.

Just to compare, how many RAM do you guys have (both those who don't and do experience the lag)?

Well, my current specs:

AMD Athlon 64 @ 3800 (about 2.3 or 2.4Ghz)
ATI Radeon XT1300 series PCIe card with 256 onboard RAM
2 GB of DDR2 RAM (Can be upgraded to 4 GB)
500 GB Hard Drive
DVD player
MSI motherboard with nforce chipsets and software
Windows XP Pro with SP3

I do experience some lag, but not as serious as others have reported. The game will pause for about 2 or 3 seconds and then be fine onward.

I've been using Pescado's mod for a while now and I've never experienced any of the issues that I have been reading about on MATY. I have to think it has something to do with the system or windows version the mod is installed on also.

These are my specs

Abit AB9 Pro Mother board (Intel965+ICH8)
3.0 ghz Intel Pentium D
2 gig Kingston DDR 2 memory
NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT video with 1 gig memory
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7191A SCSI CdRom
650 watt power supply
Windows XP Pro sp3
