Title: What is WRONG with my Game?
Post by: SenkoTwiik on September 23, 2009, 02:05:50 pm
Many months ago, I had something continuously happening with my game, where I would start it up, and load RiverBlossom Hills, then the game would go through the loading (all the lights would show up and sweep off the screen like normal) and then the game would freeze on the RiverBlossom Hills screen.
I found out before that I had a corrupted file somewhere in my downloads, and once it was deleted, the game worked fine.

Well, it's doing the same thing again, so I spent an entire day going through my downloads folders manually and testing each folder until I found that I somehow had something broken or corrupted in my Dressers folder. I removed whatever it was and started the game up again. It worked one time just fine like it should have, but this morning when I turned it on, it's doing the exact same crap it was doing before! What's wrong with it? How could another file have gotten corrupted or broken in 1 night? I took my entire Dressers folder out of my downloads and it still won't work.

Try to delete the .cache files. They might contain buggy stuff - even after you've deleted the buggy download files.

Thanks theraven, but it didn't work. I keep having the same freeze and i keep having to shut my game off with the button and not the shut-down method. Man I wish my computer would just tell me which file is screwed up so I don't have to go through everything again. I tried using the Clean Installer thing, but it freezes every single time.

It sounds to me like you've got a mesh that doesn't like your game.  Meshes are registered with the game on startup, but not actually read until the game attempts to use it, so a problematic mesh can lurk in your downloads for months before raising it's ugly head.  It usually happens with meshes requiring specific EPs or SPs, but can happen with corrupted meshes also.

If you can load Bodyshop or CAS, you could scroll through all {toddler through elder, both genders) the clothes and hair.  If the game crashes while doing that, you've narrowed the problem down to that group of meshes.  If the game doesn't crash, chances are it's an object mesh.  You could check by building a new house, scrolling through Buy Mode and Build Mode categories that have meshes.

DDO will help organize your meshes if needed.  Beyond that, it's more binary searches.

Thank you, ancienthighway.
I have been going through my downloads. Bodyshop works fine, so I narrowed it down a bit. I figured out that once again, something is wrong with either my Dressers folder or my Comfort folder. Luckily those folders aren't too big so I should be able to get rid of the offending file or files shortly.
Thanks to both of you.
