Title: Profile age question
Post by: aliccolo on December 07, 2008, 08:18:54 am
Hullo!  I noticed that my profile says I am 18 years old...which is not correct.  I checked to be sure that my birthdate was correctly input on my profile info page, and it was.  However, it still says I am 18.  I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue, and if there is a way to fix it.  This isn't a huge issue, just wanted to let the admin folks know what's up...:)

It's the "rule of 6".  You are 18 until you are 24, then 24 until you are 30, etc.

The "Rule of 6" is not a bug.

I thought the intention was to *not* have this site similar to MATY?   ???

Hell, it means I get to be 30 for another 6 years. I'm all for it.

Inge, it's not, but at the moment whilst we're all still getting to grips with things, and whilst Pescado is generously hosting us until we get our own servers sorted out then a few things will stay as they were set up!

Besides, it may *look* a little like MATY but the InSIM community spirit will certainly reign supreme!

I don't mind being 42 for a few more years, but that damn silvering of my hair won't stop no matter how you stack the rule of six! Make it stop... :D

I was wondering about this too....it's minor to me, if a little confusing.

I don't mind the messed up age. If it gets fixed later on, that's good too.

I just placed my real age in my profile and that's good enough for me. :P

Hah. Well, I already lie and say I'm 24 anyways, so it makes no difference to me.

Not that being 26 is something to be ashamed of or anything, but...whatever...

Even so, Ali, these are MATY comments. Your explanation would have been adequate. The MATY style comments may intimidate the InSIM community spirit. Which is exactly what I have feared.

The InSIM community is resilient and will adjust for the short amount of time we are on the MATY servers. Look at how well we've already bounced back and you'll see what I mean. Don't sell us short, we're adaptable.

I lost over 5 years of my life and near 400 posts in this (hopefully temporary) transfer.

You won't get your posts back....Walt's Insim seems dead in the water, he must have done some crazy stuff to the server.

I don't think this "transfer" is temporary. Regardless of what happens, unless the Inwaltinator comes back to life and you want to go crawling back, we are here to stay.

If she does, will her age go up?

Title: Re: Profile age question
Post by: Paden on December 18, 2008, 05:33:10 pm
No, but there's a better chance that she won't get picked on for acting like she's twelve. And before you start in on that, don't tell me that it doesn't happen on other PG-13 forums. If you act like a kid, you get treated like one.

Title: Re: Profile age question
Post by: April on December 18, 2008, 09:24:53 pm
Oh Christ I'm 12 in this thing. But, I was wondering, this doesn't happen in other forums hosted by SMF, such as SimsCave, SimsCrossing and MATY (and the phorum that must not be named :D). I'm 14 in those forums. And here...well... I'm two years younger.

It may be a bug.

No, this definitely happens on MATY/PMBD. In fact, it happens because I imported the source code from MATY/PMBD to start here. What are you DOING there, anyway? MATY/PMBD is not for 12s!

Title: Re: Profile age question
Post by: Inge Jones on December 19, 2008, 09:05:00 am
Don't worry she's here now, where 12s can be 12s with our blessing :)

Title: Re: Profile age question
Post by: Paden on December 19, 2008, 12:53:23 pm
Does she really need the blessing of anyone to be her age? So long as she behaves, that's what counts. I think she'll do well here. She's got some posts under her belt and most likely has read the rules, so April, you're gonna be fine.

Whoever made that the case is the biggest moron on Earth. Grrrrrrr. Whoever came up with that, I hate intensely. VERY INTENSELY.

I have no sense of humour right now.  :p

I've noticed. And no, he's not a moron, evidence this site being here and without Walt.

I'm not sure on who you are talking about in the other sentences, but as for the last sentence, that's good to hear. If you'll excuse me, I have to go spam the boards eat dinner. :D

Can I have some rum if I'm over 12? I love the work you are doing. Passes around some snowflake cookies....

Be patient folks. We have just witnessed (and experienced) a major shift in Insim, and it's not over yet. Let's not get our panties in a wad. This is a fine holiday present, and the elves will get all the little details worked out. Pescado, staff, mods, admins - thank you! and happy holidays.

You only get the rum if you're over twenty-four years of age, sorry bout that! But we do haz mulled cider!

Actually once you get a few more years under your belt, you'll appreciate Pescado's rule of 12's.  Actions and the way you post tells more about your maturity then any physical age.  Shoot I like being younger then I am.  And to those very young ones, not really a good idea to be broadcasting your age.  Even on a relatively safe site like this.

I think the more you complain about the age thing, the longer it will stay.  We all owe Pescado a lot.  Without him Insimenator would no longer exist.  So a few little quirks can easily be ignored.  We at least have the rest of the site to enjoy.

I have the problem with the age on my pro. My birthdate says I'm born in '93, but it says my age is 12, which isn't correct. Ths is a problem, because you have to be 13 to be on this site. But I'm really 15! What to do?! I noticed other people were having this problem. Some users in the Teen Discussion, some of their ages say 12...I just don't want to be deleted and banned because my age doesn't display correctly. =|

Relax, interview; it's just Pescado's bizarre and gimmicky 'Rule of 6'. You're 12 until you're 18, 18 until you are 24, then 24 until you are 30, etc. You won't get banned.

...although I thought we were going to drop that silliness? *shrugs*

Title: Re: Profile age question
Post by: Paden on January 19, 2009, 01:44:07 am
I'm hoping that it gets dropped very soon. It's causing undue stress and garbage for people that don't need to deal with it. But, and this is kind of important: Don't fill in any personal information that you don't need to give out. Keep confidential info about yourself just that, confidential. Yes, we want you to be thirteen and older to be here, that hasn't changed. No, we don't think you're actually twelve because when you registered at the old site, you were following the rule of having to be thirteen. Just give folks the credit to believe you're old enough to be here and don't act like you belong in front of a TV set watching children's programming no matter how old you are and all will be well.

Title: Re: Profile age question
Post by: Ali on January 19, 2009, 07:58:26 am
to echo paden - keep anything confidential to yourselves. You don't actually HAVE to enter a date of birth when you register

A lot of you, like me, reveal (part of) your real christian names. Now I'm not overly worried about that really but I suppose if someone were hell bent on stealing my identity then I'd be helping them by giving them my date of birth as well

Not trying to worry anyone but you do have to keep security at the back of your minds on teh big bad intarwebz

It's a Pescado thing, he sees years of age in multiples of six. You only advance in age when you hit one of those multiples. I dunno why, I think it's an old fart thing he came up with in order not to feel so ancient. ::)

I'm sorry to bump this up, but...
It's been a very long time since I've been twelve.
Don't get me wrong; I'd love to relive those glory days, but...at the same time I'm only two years away from being an adult so. :|
So for now, I was born in the year 0000. Great year to be born in.
