Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Sims Deluxe????

It contains the base game and Nightlife Expansion pack. There is, I think, also a different version which contains the base game, Nightlife and the Celebrations Stuff pack. It should say what is included in small print on the back of the box or else in the paper manual inside the box.
The contents of your unzipped or unrared custom content files almost always go into My Documents--EA Games--Sims 2-- Downloads
If for some reason there is not already a folder named Downloads there, you can create one.
General exceptions:
Collection files (along with their accompanying image files) go into:
My Documents--EA Games--Sims 2-- Collections
Neighborhood terrains and their accompanying pictures (if any) go into:
My Documents--EA Games--Sims 2-- sc4 Terrains
Other exceptions which do not go into the Downloads folder include .avi or .mp3 files for custom audio or custom TV video. See any readme files which accompany such custom for installation instructions.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Missing meshes? (added screenshot)

Could you please explain the hidden outfits cheat? I haven't heard of it or used it before. I've attached a screenshot of what I'm getting in the CAS screen. I wasn't able to get any information at all from it. boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true Then use Shift-N before creating a Sim to show hidden outfits. Shift-M will hide them again. Be sure to turn off the cheat when finished: boolprop testingCheatsEnabled false

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Need help with finding a possible conflicting file in my downloads, causing problems.
|

There is no program which will absolutely pinpoint the file or files for you. Obviously there is either an item (or items) which are in conflict, or else an item (or items) which are either corrupted or not compatible.
The tried and true, but time consuming, method of delete and hunt will work, though.
If you can tell right off when the problem began, you can deal with only files installed since that date. If not, just deal with them all.
Move the contents of the Downloads folder (or else the contents since the date you suspect the problem began) to someplace else on your comoputer. A new, temporarily created folder in My Documents will do.
Then run the game and see if the problem goes away.
If all is well, move back a goodly chunk of the files into the Downloads folder.
Run the game and see if the problems occur.
If not, repeat with another chunk of files. Continue until you re-create the problem. By then you have narrowed down a smaller amount of files which contain the culprit(s).
Take oiut 50% of just those files and check if the problem is there. If not, move back another 50%, and so on, until you have a smaller group of files to check.
Eventually you will have narrowed it down to specific file(s) which are causing the conflict or the problem. Then get rid of those.
It does take some time to do this, but it is really the only sure method.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Why are Wall/Floors packaged seperately

You can save a little bit of time by using an extraction program that will extract multiple zip and/or rar programs all with just one click instead of having to extract them one at a time, such as 7-zip. http://www.7-zip.org/Just highlight all the files to be simultaneously extracted and choose Extract Files to browse to a path to here you wnat them or else Extract Here to extract them to the same folder the compressed files are in. As for Clean Installer, by unchecking the default in the installation options box, you can choose any place you want to have the files installed.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / crashing & burn

Apologies if this seems too elementary.
Always make sure the Clean Installer window is maximized when using it.
If the tabs (Name, MD5, Date & Time, etc.) truly are not functioning, would suggest uninstalling Clean Installer and the re-downloading and installing a fresh version.
However, it may be that the tabs just appear not to be working, as it does take a bit of time for Clean Installer to re-sort the files when a tab is clicked on.
A good rule of thumb is to not do anything inside Clean Installer until it has completely finished browsing whichever file you have told it to look through and list.
You can tell it is done when the number of files is showing under the folder name at the upper left of CI's top pane (or when that number changes if you are doing multiple browses in the same session).
An alternate way to make sure CI is done generating the file list is to click in an empty area of the main pane, then hit the End (or Page End) key on your keyboard - when the moving position block in the scrollbar has stopped moving altogether, then CI has finished its listing.
After that, click on whichever tab you need at the moment - it may take anywhere from a couple of seconds to considerably longer for CI to re-sort the file listings.
Just in case, clicking the same tab a second time will reverse the order of the listings.
If it might help for comparison purposes, I have just under 18,000 (not a typo) files in Downloads and its sub-folders. Having CI scan the entire Downloads folder sometimes takes as much as 15 minutes before it has finished. Then clicking on a tab can take a varying amount of time before CI has re-sorted the list, but usually less than 20 seconds.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Painting Question
|
on: September 11, 2008, 07:59:36 am

I understand the directions and all its just for some reason i can never get it to work. The sims keep painting the old snapshot i took and not the new painting/ art i edited and saved for them to do instead. Silly question perhaps, but are you putting the new image into Downloads? If so, it doesn't belong there. You must either delete the existing Snapshot.bmp image and replace it with the new one or else overwrite it with the new image. And the new image must be named eactly as the existing one - if the existing one is Snapshot.bmp (with a capital S) the new one must be named exactly that way. Have never had a prob doing this. Perhaps this procedure will help you: Open your graphics editor and do your resizing/cropping/whatever of your preferred image. When that is done, use 'Save As' function and make sure the file type is set to bmp Navigate to the Storytelling folder in My Documents-EA Games-Sims 2 and choose the Snapshot.bmp file. This will overwrite the existing file upon completion of the 'Save As.' If, for whatever reason, your particular graphics editor happens to save the file with a .BMP extension, change that to all lower case.

Just didn't want to repeat the info yet also offer an alternative should someone want it

So glad to hear it has been resolved.
In the future, should this occur again, Clean Installer can help. Click 'File Type' button and look for files designated Collection. You can the right-click on each of those and use the 'Move To' function to move 'em directly to your Collections folder. Then all that would be left would be to go into Downloads file itself and move any .jpg or .png files that might belong with a Collection file and move them as well (unfortunately Clean Installer can't help with that step).

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Downloads for Houses
|
on: September 10, 2008, 06:15:06 pm

Thanks for replying. I decided to try my hand at building my own. I've done enough "remodeling" in other Sims games that I thought this would be a breeze. The only problem that I keep running into is that since my house is not completely square I am unable to place windows on 45 degree angle areas. Is this a bug in the game, because I know I can do it in Sims Life Stories. Feedback appreciated. Thanks so much!! Some windows (and some doors and some curtains, for that matter) include diagonal versions, some don't. You'll just have to experiment with different ones until you find one you want to use which includes a diagonal capability. Also, when placing doors or windows, make sure that moveobjects is off or else in some instances the doors or window will show fine in Build Mode, but will not show in Live Mode.
