Title: Crashing Issue
Post by: Galdis on January 21, 2007, 09:20:02 pm
Once I get to the main menu loading screen after starting up the game, the screen turns blue and an error comes up "Sims 2 Pets has encountered a problem, and will now terminate".  Sometimes it works and plays, but most of the time it doesn't.  I tried reinstalling, but that didn't work, and I tried getting rid of my downloads, but that still didn't work.

Any suggestions?

Don't rush to help me.  I only searched 12 pages into the forum to insure my question hadn't been asked, and spent hours trying to fix it myself.

*Jenna's sarcasm meter explodes* Whoa, that one was off the scale!

Humor aside, here's a few other things you could try:

- Delete the 'groups.cache' file from the Sims 2 user directory
(My documents/Ea Games/The Sims 2). It can get corrupted and cause the annoying behaviour you've witnessed. The game will generate a new one when you load it up next time.

- Clear out your Saved Sims and Teleport folder. Back things up first, just in case.

These are things that have worked for me in the past. No guarantee they'll help you, but it's worth a shot and won't harm anything.

Deleting the Groups.cache seems to have worked for now.  I love you.  Seriously, thank you so much.:worship:

Well, I spoke too soon.  Argh.  Deleting groups.cache worked once, and now it won't work again.

Also, I don't seem to have a Saved Sims folder.

Well, some more information would be helpful. What are your system specs? You might not have enough memory. What video card do you have installed? Have you tried removing the \My Documents\EA Games folder completely and starting the game to see if the problem persists?

I figured it out.  Turns out that if I played it while I was logged in on Xfire, the game would terminate.

Now that I posted this, it's not gonna work.:smt120

Thanks for the help, anyways.
