Title: Arm Amputee Request
Post by: zeustra2 on December 21, 2008, 04:49:37 pm
A very dear friend of mine is a congenital LBE (left below elbow) amputee due to a birth defect. I want to make a sim of her that properly reflects her real self. She doesn't wear a prosthetic arm very often so I didn't want her sim to have one. I understand that in game this would look odd because the sim would pick things up and it would just float there, but Sims use their right hands more anyway...

I've seen a headless skin before and I've seen missing legs so I know it's possible. I was hoping that it could be made as an accessory (glasses) so it could be used with different skins.

Please, if anyone is willing to help, let me know if you need any more information.

I'm no mesher and I know it CAN be done, but you can't expect it to have be done by christmas. I mean...4 days? That's out of the question.

I had some weird troubles with the one above (some problem with either the texture or the mesh, I think), so I tried to make my own version, as a top instead of a full outfit. It's my first outfit mesh, and it has a weird issue with the mesh seams, but other than that it works fine (unless you count floating wedding rings, flying babies and other mysterious problems ;)). When I sort out that mesh problem, I'm thinking of making a few more outfits. But if anyone wants it like it is, then I'll upload it :)

The seams are a result of having autosmooth on when importing the mesh for the first time.
You can use alligne normals to fix this or reimport the original mesh with the autosmooth box ticked off and remove the arm again.

hmm, had to tell you earlier..
You can not use alligne normals on some parts, not the neck for sure.
You can use Wes H his data merge tool for the neck.
But i would reimport the mesh and start over personally ;)
