Title: WANTED Creation suggestions: Defaults that are better than Maxis
Post by: ChildofRenessaince on February 09, 2011, 05:26:13 pm
I just reinstalled the base game so I could mesh.
The first thing I always install are default replacements, so my sims will look decent.

The next thing I do is go in game, and change everybody's hairstyle.
Like, Angela, and Lillith's. I always, change their barrette hair to a better version either by XM sims or rosesims2. I change, Jenny Smith's hair to a different ponytale.

But I thought: Why do I need all of this extra cc clogging up by bins. I NEVER use most of the maxis hairs!
Why don't I just create some default replacements!

So now I want some suggestions, for better hair to replace the ones that came with the game and ep's. Just through some at me... Give me multiple one's and I'll decide. Just, I would want to replace a ponytail, with a ponytail, or something at least similar, a braid. Just better looking, is all. Like what do you use?

I've come over a bunch of default replacements at GoS (http://gardenofshadows.digitalperversion.net/), especially from links found in the "best finds" (http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=10950.2415) topic. You might have to go back a bit to find them, but I do think the last set is only a few posts back. If they're hard to find, try searching for "default" while in that topic. All links to default replacements will pop up.

You could probably use those files to make your own default hairs, if you find some you like better.

Edit: Oh, some of those are awesome! Thanks. However... I could still use more!
No... I wasn't looking for replacements. I was looking for custom hair that I could use in place of maxis, and create defaults out of. ;D

That's exactly what is in a lot of those links - custom default replacement hairs.

Like these (and probably plenty more)

http://rio-sims.livejournal.com/805.html

http://le-plat-du-jour.livejournal.com/37771.html
http://le-plat-du-jour.livejournal.com/37920.html

You could probably use those files to make your own default hairs, if you find some you like better. Wuldn't be surprised if there is also a tutorial at GoS.

If you want to make your own, there is always the hair gallery (http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Hair_Gallery), for browsing through about 80-90% of the meshes out there...

Yes I know how to make my own!

Extract the GMDC and TXTR files and create a new package!

That's what I am doing! I wanted some mesh suggestions to do them with :D

You might want to take a look at the Default Database (http://sims2-defaults.livejournal.com/). So you don't waste your time on defaults that have already been made ... unless of course, you want to waste your time.

Theraven made a good suggestion about the Hair Gallery (http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Hair_Gallery), that would be a good place to get ideas. Or maybe have a look at the request sections, there's a chance someone requested hair defaults.
