Title: Audio Loss - no more sound?
Post by: AimingStars123 on February 07, 2007, 11:26:34 am
Well - I have no idea what the heck I did, but I did, and now I have no more sound in my sims 2 game. Nothing - zip - zero - not even that stupid "shwhoop" noise when you click the mouse somewhere. And my audio option in the panel has been grayed out, I can't click it. :\

Sorry, if I'm being a pain and if this question has been asked before, but it's kind of not fun with no sound, you know what I'm saying? :( So, uh...

Help? *puppy, teary eyes*

Did you just lose sound in the game, or outside of the game too?

Outside of the game too, actually now that I've checked >_O Apparently whatever I did, I messed up my sound card badly!

try uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for the sound card -- this will usually correct the problem.

Also double check to see if the speakers are plugged into the right socket

As a last resort try a different set of speakers - these sometimes die

I'd double click on the volume control to bring up the Sound Manager.  Check your settings there to be sure wave, SW Synth, CD Player and Line Volume are set above 0, although I think the critical one for computer generated sounds is wave.  Also Master Volume needs to be set above 0.

Okay - I'm sort of an idiot when it comes to computer stuff, so - how would I got about uninstalling and re-installing the sound card drivers? Where would I find it?

Before you do this, make sure you have copies of the driver to re-install.

maybe in add/remove programmes in the control panel

alternately you can also use the System Properties control panel

  • Press [Windows]+[Break] to bring up the System Properties dialog box.
  • Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
  • In Device Manager, expand the various branches in the device tree and look for the sound icons.
  • To remove a device driver, right-click the icon and select Uninstall

Okay - I'll probably have to wait till my dad gets back from work tonight; I don't have the copies of the driver with me, and I don't know where he would put them >_>

Thank you! :)
