Title: Nvidia DDS...new question
Post by: DarkDude28 on June 05, 2007, 02:35:39 pm
Alright I wanted to do some recoloring tonight and I downloaded SimPE like I needed. When I opened wizered it said that I didn't have the right or any Nvidia DDS. I don't know what to do. I went to the Navidia site and downloaded DDS program, but SimPE still won't run. I was hoping someone would hook me up with the right stuff and the right place to get the program I need. Thanks alot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the SimPE site has direct links to all the programs you'll need there.

I think you might have to do something in the nVidia control panel. I remember mine not working at first and then I did something and it started working. I'm sorry that's not very helpful, but it's been a little while ago.

you probably have to go into the options or preferences (can't remember and don't feel like opening SimPE to look) in SimPE and tell it where the Nvidia DDS is installed.

I have been using the dds utilities all along without a problem with my NVIDIA card, but it's an older card.

Looks like they have rewritten the utilities, and I doubt that it would work with my card.

If you are in the same or similar shape as me, you might want their older utilities download which you can get by scrolling to the bottom here:

You said this was in the wizard

Assuming everything is in and correct (click on options, below left  at the first screen) you should see this or something a lot like it:

You can also perform a system test there that should tell you more about what's happening.

One quick question and you'll get more treats out of this. If I want to ewcolor a Season thing or what have you i need to download an update or just have the game?

The Seasons version of SIMPE should  give you everything you need.

You'd also need the newest version of CEP

See the SIMPE site for more info:

I downloaded the one on their main download page. I think that's the newest one I also downloaded the things that I needed. Hope it works now.

Oh have that.

Now it won't let me export,so that I can recolor i hit the iteam I want then the next button and it sends me to the page of what I want ot export I click on what I want then it sats that I need to name it. I do and it tells me that The iteam is being renamed or something like that. Or it says that that iteam is not recolor friendly. I'm starting to get discouraged. *cries just a little*

Ignore the "this item can't be recolored" nag.

Try exporting it anyway.

Also I think you'll discover that using the wizard works best on one object at a time.  It seemed to make a difference to me.

It's somewhat of a pain to go through the whole process of waiting for it to load for multiple objects one at a time; but it did seem to clear things up a bit.

Sounds like it's working for you though.

Alright. I'll try that and I have been doing them one at a time.

What if I can't export anyway?

*Gives Vampyre a tray of his favorite cookies* thanks man.

Edit: AHHHA I got it work *does happy dance* Wooooo

More cookies for all that helped.

If you can't then the nag wasn't just a nag.

No big deal.

I'd try beginning with something pretty common.

If you end up with extracted .png files you  know you made it.

One exception would be the alpha on the flamingo light.  They will extract ok.

The flamingo light can't be recolored that I know of.

I just want to mention that you don't have to have a NVIDIA card to use the dds utilities. I have an ATI card and I've had the dds utilities installed for use with SimPE for ages.

Shows what can happen when you only have one brand long enough.

I wouldn't have expected the Wizard only to work for NVIDIA graphics cards though.

I know nothing about the wizard... I haven't bothered to learn how to recolor furniture and stuff.

before I downloaded & installed the dds utilities (ages back) I had to ask to see if it would work even though I had a ATI card. I thought other people might not know since theres seems to be many new people around here these days.
