Title: Probably a stupid question .... Post by: jlw484 on July 18, 2007, 03:16:59 am Okay, at some point I apparently associated package files with Notepad so instead of the normal icon all my package files have the little notepad icon. I've also noticed that SimPE won't open any of my package files. What I'd like to know is what program can I associate the package files so that SimPE will open them or is this even a problem?
Title: Probably a stupid question .... Post by: PegasusDiana on July 18, 2007, 06:46:21 am You can't right click on open and re-associate the files with Sims 2?
I found this maybe it will help. http://www.geocities.com/~budallen/associatext.html From Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/associate_file_with_program.mspx?mfr=true For Macs: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_associate_a_file_with_an_application.html Title: Probably a stupid question .... Post by: jlw484 on July 18, 2007, 02:48:40 pm Yes, I can reassociate the files with anything. I reassociated them with SimPE (and I still couldn't open them with it) but I was unsure on what in the Sims to use. Do I just use Sims 2 or the package installer or what? Keep in mind that the packages still work inside the game, but the file icons themselves look different and SimPE will not open them. Just tried associating it with The Sims 2 and it still doesn't work with SimPE. Anytime I try and open a package file the Sims tries to load and it says the wrong disc is loaded.

In Windows Vista it seems trickier. Yeah, that's kinda what I was asking ... just in a dumb way. Is there any way to remove any association from a particular file type? As default, the package files are shown as associated with "Unknown" and I'd like to get back to that if possible. I'm using XP Pro if that changes things. Title: Probably a stupid question .... Post by: PegasusDiana on July 19, 2007, 03:36:59 pm Why would you reassociate them with SimPE? If you associate them with anything it should be Sims2. Never mind. If you want them to associate with nothing just go to windows explorer or start/control panel/tools/folder options/filetypes/ find package files and click on change and uncheck always use the selected program to open this type of file. If that doesn't work you'll have to click on advanced and then remove. But that may make them so they don't work at all, so then you'll have to add them back manually.
Title: Probably a stupid question .... Post by: ancienthighway on July 19, 2007, 03:42:18 pm As long as the package files end with .package, SimPE should be able to open them. As they have somehow become associated with Notepad, if you've open them with Notepad, then saved them, you may have a .txt extension beyond the .package extension. Use Windows Explorer to check and delete the .txt if it's there.
PD, associating the files with TS2 does nothing. By associating them with SimPE, if you want to edit a package, all you do is double click that package. Very useful if you create new items or mod. Use Windows Explorer to check and delete the .txt if it's there. I'm unable to locate any .txt extension on any of the package files. I'm completely unable to open any of the package files using SimPE. If I'm browsing the files with Delphy's Download Organizer and I right-click a file and select "Open with SimPE" it opens in Notepad form instead. If I'm actually in SimPE and try to open a file nothing at all happens, I get the hourglass cursor for a moment then nothing. I thought these issues might be because of the file association but I guess it may be something else. Thanks for the imput guys, I appreciate it. Title: Probably a stupid question ....
