Title: Need help with a crashing problem Post by: ImNotOkay1012 on November 12, 2007, 09:35:10 am One question...
If I don't have this patch, would that cause the game to crash if I go over my limit? Title: Need help with a crashing problem Post by: ImNotOkay1012 on November 12, 2007, 11:58:55 am okay, I deleted a bunch of stuff, I went from 2,251 to 1,674 and my game still wont work...and I can't find the patch for OFB??

I'm Not Okay - Did you create/edit your rc.local file? The game will crash for about 20,000 reasons on a Mac, the file limit is just one of those 20,000 reasons. If you have created/edited the rc.local file, you can at least eliminate that as a possible cause for your crash. Creating/Editing the RC.LOCAL file MUST DO download and install OnyX (http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html) or a similar program of your preference Log-in as root. Start OnyX (http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html) and tell it to display hidden files. Finder will restart, wait until Finder has restarted and completely displays before proceeding. Go into Macintosh HD and find the folder etc and open the file rc.local in text, create this file if it does not already exist. Add these lines or edit them if you have something similar. sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=102000 sysctl -w kern.maxfilesperproc=100000 You must set kern.maxfiles 2000 higher than kern.maxfilesperproc. If you need to have more files open, use a higher number, example: sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=202000 sysctl -w kern.maxfilesperproc=200000 Save the file to your desktop (uncheck if no extension is provided, use ".txt") then move it into the etc folder. Return to OnyX (http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html) and restore the settings to not show hidden files. Restart the computer. Installing anything thing that includes Pet functions (like a bed that allows a pet to sleep it) in the absence of Pets EP can cause a crash. Content that requires an EP you don't have can cause a crash. Duplicate meshes (a HUGE hazard now that Sims2Packs contain meshes) can cause a crash. Certain hair files can cause a crash on some Mac systems. Certain bump-map enabled meshes and recolours can cause crashes on some Mac systems. I could go on for a long while in this vein, just accept my statement that the Mac version is more problematic, buggy, and hateful than the PC version, and the PC version pretty flarging awful. The thing that makes the Mac version worse is the absence of any robust tools to help isolate duplicates and bad files. We have WooHoo, but it isn't a completed work, it can get the job done, but takes a lot of patience and work. Long-time Mac-users like myself are used to this sort of thing. When things are working on a Mac, they work flawlessly, but when things go wrong, boy howdy do they ever. You will have to carefully consider your Downloads, what have you recently added? Obviously this worked until you changed something. It is possible that you have a mod that isn't OFB compatible. It's possible that you have a duplicate version of the Downloads Folder portion of CEP, early versions of the game systematically included this with lot Sims2Packs, and this was deadly to my game. You don't specifically state when the problem started, so my answer is based on generalities. If you can list your Expansion Packs and Stuff Packs, what patches you have installed, etc; I might be able to give better support. You will have to contact Aspyr Tech Support to get the URL for any patch for the OFB EP, I don't know if there is an update for that yet. Here are the Patches I know about: The Sims 2 1.0 Rev F (http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=18775) - Fixes several issues with text cursors including auto-repeat - Fixes issue where English neighborhood strings were replaced if the game was started in another language - Fixes crash when Sims have babies and several other potential crashes - Fixes color problems with certain in-game objects - Fixes issue with game freezing if sim catches on fire while not in view and the 1st person camera is used - Improved frame rates, particularly on Intel Macs - Fixes issue where graphics preferences would reset to defaults The Sims 2 University 1.1 Rev A (http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=19160) - Adds native Intel support - Fixes terrain camera tracking. - Fixes a random crash after a baby is born The Sims 2 Nightlife 1.2 Rev A (http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=19161) - Fixes a random crash after a baby is born - There is no mention of this addressing the Vampire Bites NPC bug =/ The Sims 2 Pets 1.6 Rev A (http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=19496) - Aspyr offers no details on this patch Title: Need help with a crashing problem Post by: ImNotOkay1012 on November 12, 2007, 01:11:58 pm Quote from: beosboxboy;1028355 Pierreandreply... this section is called the Mac-Users Only Peer Support section for a reason, y'know...
