Post by: mikerj on December 11, 2008, 12:08:38 pm
Hi
After a long search trying to find how to get to this site  8)
I found i needed to register but kept getting the message that there were invalid characters in my chosen name.
On insiminator.net i was registered as mike19 but now registered here as mikerj.
also
i did not need to register on insimadult.org i managed to be loging in there as mike19
is there a chance someone could sort my username to mike19 on both sites please.

The type pf forum software we are using here does not allow numbers or characters used in punctuation as part of a user name, sorry. You're stuck with mikej as a user name, looks like.

Really? It let me keep the period in my name, though.

And then there's me, with a one at the end of my name.

From what I can recall from a chat with Pescado:

Some of the old, more active accounts that had numbers and other assorted clutter in their screennames were kept, while the less active (read: low post counts) were purged.

Phew thank goodness I was an active account. Else I would have had to remake my avatar :) LOL

See how much I've been paying attention? He claimed that neither punctuation marks or numbers could be in a user's name and here I pass that along and well, dang. Snafu, go about your business.

Yeah, I realized that whole "special characters not allowed" thing when I tried logging in to the other site... and I had to ditch my squiggly line over there when I re-registered.  :P  As long as I get to keep it somewhere, I'm fine.  :D

Funny characters are no longer allowed because the source code to get this place jumpstarted was imported from MATY, as the base SMF has horrible security and usability issues, like asking too many annoying questions when I need to perform acts of mass destruction.

As a result, funny-characters are no longer permitted in new usernames, as it is EXTREMELY annoying when people punch in binary gibberish as a username, not to mention a potential security hazard if someone uses executable code for a username. As a side benefit, the readability and clarity of the site will improve when people aren't named "*********FUNKY**********".

I'd like to see someone try to use that, I might laugh myself into a coughing fit over the thought of the look on your face...

Hey Mike

if you go into your profile, you can actually change the display name - so you'll still have to log in as mikerj but you'll be able to have your display name as mike19
