Title: Can't install BonVoyage or Freetime (contains error report) ADDED PICTURE
Post by: jordinary on January 24, 2009, 07:45:43 pm
Most people are having trouble playing th game but i cant even get mine to install! I bought Freetime and Bon Voyage two days ago along with nightlife. nightlife gives me no problems, its on my system right now
but when I try to install FT and BV its say that there has been an error with EAGamesAutoStart.exe or something like that then it gives me the option to send an error report. So can anyone help? I mean i would prefer not to take them back (they were on sale for $19.99 AUS!)

I found the error report it said:

keep in mind that picture was taken almost immediately after I put the disk in. So the installer never even started. It just gives me that message with BV and FT. All my games (including Base-Game The Sims 2) have been patched if that helps.

How can you get the error "EAGamesAutoStart.exe" with FT and BV both?  Please explain what you did to have that happen, i.e. you tried to install FT and when that happened you then tried with BV and got this error also? or what?

Yeah sorry about that. Added pictures and extra info. As soon as I put the disc in I get that message. It didn't happen with Nightlife though. i bought that on the same day, same place, same price.

I just realized you wrote: keep in mind that picture was taken almost immediately after I put the disk in. So the installer never even started. It just gives me that message with BV and FT. All my games (including Base-Game The Sims 2) have been patched if that helps.

does that mean you downloaded and installed the patches for BV & FT without the game actually being installed?

anyway I also forgot to ask before if you turn off your running programs like anti-virus before trying to install?

OMG! Thank you biggest (i'm) crunchie ever. Didn't think to close down everything first (doy). I haven't installed any patches for FT and BV yet. I'm supposed to do that after right. You know for all the year of playing the Sims 2, if anything goes wrong I'm too scared to try and fix it myself ;)

BTW did you like my Twilight background? i thought it was very smexy

Drat the luck!! ok now you will have to give answers to questions asked previously:

what operating system are you using?  is this a pc or laptop? you have updated DirectX?  What media player do you have installed? and did you recently install a new printer?  and  processor, RAM, free space on your hard drive and video card info please.

and yes your desktop background is great!

And do close messenger. If it pings you while you're installing it can cause problems.

it will list your card/cards here
that is what info we would like you to post, please.

If you only have 5gig of space left that could be the problem. When is the last time you defraged the hard drive? It may report 5 gig free but not actually be able to use it all if the drive has a lot of fragmentation. The installer checks available disk space before it trys to install. Also, the game usually will install but not run if it's a video card issue.

That's just what I was thinking. Each EP needs at least 1.5 gb of free hard drive space to install. You have five, but it may not be able to utilize it. It wouldn't hurt one bit if you were to try freeing up some space on your computer. If there's anything you've got just sitting there that can be put on a disk or flash drive, then I would do so. Give yourself as much room as you can because the game itself needs half a gb of free hard drive space to run, and that's not taking into account the free disk space your computer needs to run. So if you do the math you're really getting close. FT is 1.5 gb, BV is another 1.5 gb, plus the 0.5 gb the game needs to just run (that's just to run, not run smoothly keep in mind) and you're using up 3.5 of your 5 gb remaining, leaving 1.5 gb for the rest of your computer to use.

I'll try no promises it will work though. keep in mind that the installer never opened. immediatley after putting the disk in, the error report betchen popped up.

EDIT: WOOT! I freed up about 8 gigs! I now have 11.8 gbs of free space. It turns out my horrible habit of torrent downloading was bad for the compoopa. who knew?

OK...a couple things to consider. I sincerely doubt it's the disks, since you're having this same problem with both.

Try restarting your computer with the disk still in the drive, then try to install.

Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date and/or installed properly (yes this can cause autorun problems). It could even be something as simple as a loose cable in your computer.

It could be your optical drive (cd drive, dvd drive...whatever you have). If you have something else you can install on your computer via a disk, give it a try, or even another computer you can test it on. If they install on one computer then not the other, then you have a problem with your optical drive.

You might have to manually install the game. Now I can't recall offhand how many disks come with FT and BV, so just do this for each disk:

1 - Go into My Computer.
2 - OPen drive C.
3 - Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
4 - Name the folder Disk Images (it is important that the name has a space in it).
5 - Open the newly created Disk Images folder.
6 - Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
7 - Name this folder Disk1.
8 - Repeat steps 6 and 7 while substituting Disk1 for Disk2. It is important to note there must not be a space between "Disk" and the number.
9 - Insert Disk 1 of The Sims 2 EP into your CD-ROM drive and if the autoplay starts, cancel it.
10 - Double-click My Computer to open it.
11 - Go into My Computer, right click over your CD/DVD drive and click open.
12 - When you see the contents of the disk in the Window, click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Select All.
13 - All the contents of the disk should now be highlighted, click on Edit at the top of the window again and choose Copy.
14 - Open the Disk1 folder you created under C:\Disk Images; click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Paste. This will copy the contents of the CD into the Disk1 folder.
15 - Repeat steps 9 through 14 for Disk 2 until you have copied each disk into its appropriate folder.
16 - Once the disks have been copied, remove ALL CDs from any drives. Open the Disk1 folder under Disk Images and double-click on autorun.exe to start the installation.
17 - To save disk space, you can delete the Disk Images folders after the installation has completed

No copying and using the disk image method didn't work either
I don't have another computer I can test the games on

Did you try the other things I suggested (drivers and checking for loose cables? Testing another install disk?)

I'm actually on my phone at the moment so i'll test when i get home. Could it be secuROM being a botchen that is stopping me from installing?

If these are legitimate copies you bought, it's unlikely

Yes they are legitimate copies. I tried Sims 2 torrents, they are too complicated. How can I remove secuROM from my PC with my games still installed? Last time i reinstalled all my games, i had a problem with H&M. As soon as I uninstalled the base game and all EPS then removed SecuROM, there were no problems. But I don't really feature going through that again if I can avoid it.

You can remove securom, but as soon as you reinstall the game, it's there. There's no legal way around it.

I just exchanged BV and FT for new copies of the game and these don't work either!!! I'm going to try reinstalling all my games and if not, I'm buying a laptop soon anyways.
