Title: Object Error
Post by: mickeym_69 on January 30, 2009, 03:39:39 pm
:'(   I know I have to be the 1,000,001th person to ask for help with this problem. I've become a professional dowloader.... not so much a problem solver. If someone could translate this "object error" for me, I sure would appreciate it alot! If one isn't enough.... I have a thousand others. The error doesn't pop up when I interact with objects, but with other sims. If I could just pull the problem out of the folder then I can save myself a re-install. Here is one of the object errors. Oh yeah...my games are: Original, University, Nightlife, Open For Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage and Free Time... and then there the stuff packs.... Family Fun, H&M and Teen Style Stuff. Any help I can get will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!! mickeym_69     ( file to be put in the reply after this post, cause it won't all fit)

Upload the file as an attachment please, rather than pasting the whole text into a post.

I'm an upload "virgin". sorry! Tell me how...and i will listen! Do you need the Custom Content Log or the Error Log or both?

Just the error log would be fine.

To upload an attachment, when you're typing your post, click "Addtional Options" on the bottom left, just under the text box. You'll see in there the option to attach a file. Click browse, find the file on your computer, and hit 'post'.

Okay, I looked at your error log and got the impression that several things were happening at the same time when the error was thrown. With a bit more information, we could help figure out exactly what the real problem was.

1. Who was Sharla and what was she doing when the error was thrown?

When I asked about this, I was wondering if she was a playable Sim, a townie or an NPC (like a nanny for example).

2. Do you have the following:

1. Custom Fridges
2. Custom Windows
3. Mods modifying the Influence interactions or autonomous behavior associated with windows and fridges?

The-3000-Edition-Refrigerator and the Independent Expressions Set.... all from Mod The Sims. But it's not just this house, it's every house I go into. Most don't have the fridge or windows. And Sharla is one of the original "Ottomas" clan, with custom hair makeup & clothes, etc.,

Okay, try removing the fridge first from the game and have Sharla do exactly what she did before the error was thrown to see if the fridge is the problem. If the problem went away after the fridge is removed from the game, then you know. :)

Also, if you know where the fridge and windows are located at MTS2, I would like to take a look at them.

The Doors and Windows are on page 7 of Buy Mode/Doors & Windows and the Fridge is part of a set called "3000 Edition Kitchen Set". If you type 3000 in the search box it will come up. I think it is on page 1 of the kitchen section.

I looked at the "3000" kitchen set on MTS2.

Try removing the fridge to see if the problem is resolved.

:'( Okay... here's the deal. I pulled the 3000 Editon Fridge package out of the downloads folder, started the game, went in the house. The custom fridge was gone and replaced by the maxis stainless steel. I had Sharla call over David.... his pie menu pops up followed by the "dreaded"....Error Box! When I click reset, the box goes away and his pie menu is still available and ready for use. A second interaction just repeats the process. Then I switched over to David and tried from his angle and got the same from him. Here are the files. That kitchen set had counters & small kitchen appliances that came with it. Should I gets those out also? Thanks again soooo much for your time & help!

It's listing both the window and the fridge.

Try taking out the window in question too, and see if that works.

Just on the off-chance...what mods do you have?

Okay, that would be the next thing to do. Like Joy said, take the window out next and see if the problem goes away. Don't put the fridge back in yet.

oh hell.... pick one... any one! You name it, I've probably got it. I was gonna try to organize a bit but wasn't sure what could be sub-foldered and what couldn't, so I left it alone. I'm telling ya it's a mess in there!!!! I have 585MB of downloads. Is that alot....I mean really?

A lot of mods can be subfoldered unless there are specific instructions not to subfolder the mod(s). I create subfolders with the creator's name and put the creator's mods into that folder. It is a lot easier to find them quickly if I came across a problem with a specific mod. An idea for example:

Squinge_Mods
Carrigon_Mods

Some people like to add site names in addition to the creators' names in the subfolders so they know exactly where they were coming from and who made them.

Take the window out that you mentioned: The Independent Expressions set. And start up the game and repeat the same interactions on the Sims you had when the errors were thrown.

Okay, at this point, it seemed you may have an outdated mod laying about in your Downloads folder.

You will have to do the Mod Dance (yes, the dreaded mod dance everyone talks about and dreads).

1. Create a temporary folder on your desktop.
2. Move half of your mods from your Downloads folder to your temporary folder.
3. Start up the game and go back to the Sims you were playing when the errors were first thrown.
4. If the errors were still being thrown, then the problem mod is still in your Downloads folder.
5. Okay, create another temporary folder (name it Temporary 2 if you want).
6. Then start removing each mod, one by one, until the error goes away.

I know this sounded long and tedious, but the error logs you posted seemed to me that there is a problem mod laying still in your Downloads folder. It is worth the effort to narrow down to that particular mod and remove it from the game.

I do this too sometimes when I can't trace the error to a problem mod.

Also, here is another way to check for conflicts:

1. Go to Simwardrobe (http://www.simwardrobe.com)
2. Click Sims 2 from the gray side bar.
3. Click on Programs.
4. Scroll down somewhat to find HCDU (Hack Conflict Detection Utility).
5. Download it and read the instructions first before you install the program.
6. Once the program is installed, click Run to run the program.
7. Look for any conflicts that points to potential mod issues.

Let us know how that works out for you.

Try the method the Sola suggested. That's your best bet. I'd be willing to lay down money at this point that your problem is a hack conflict.

I got the program from SimWardrobe. Ran it and got a hack report. I'm looking at it, but I can't see the forest for the trees if you know what I mean. Will you guys take a look-see for me please?

It looks like you should be using only one of the two hacks 'Computer Fixes.package' or 'Computer Fixes - No Autonomy.package'

Same for the other conflicts but check with the creator of the mods to be sure.

Use only one of these mods :
noautonomouskissmakeout.package
noShopRomanceCollection.package
OFB_NoShopMakeouts.package

Only Use one of these:
noautonomousKickyBag.package
OFB_noShopKickyBag.package

The same goes for all of my other mods.

Carrigon's enthusiasm-based mod does conflict with tunaisafish's mod. It's one or the other.

I actually recognized those two mods, Computer Fixes.package and Computer Fixes - No Autonomy.package. They're both from TJ at Simbology. Computer Fixes encourages autonomous behavior while Computer Fixes - No Autonomy does not encourage autonomous behavior. It's a case of choosing one or the other.

There are two mods that looked vaguely familiar to me: NoAutonomousBadSocialsCollection and NoShopFights. Are they Mr. Squinge's mods? I think if you go back to his section and re-read the mod descriptions for both of those mods, it's a case of choosing one or the other.

Like what Mr. Squinge said, go back to the creators' threads or sites where you got these mods (the ones showing up as conflicts) and read their descriptions/comments/instructions to find out what you need to do to resolve the conflicts.

I got crazy and dumped my entire folder. I went into a Sim house "hack free" for the first time in years. And ya know what? It's not so bad. Although I did forget how hard it was though. I'm gonna put the stuff back in a few at a time. This time I will be sub-foldering everything! Organizing as I go, cause I don't ever want to go through this again. But, hey....guess what? NO Error Boxes!   LOL                Thanks for your help and quick responses.                                    mickeym_69

Glad we were able to help you address your issues. Let us know if you were able to play your game successfully with no errors once you got your mods sorted and foldered. :)

:D So far only one file has caused the errror boxes. I've checked over half so far, ten at a time. The trouble maker was the "Desperation Interactions Enabled.package. I thought that one was just for Free Time, so why can't I have it?

I'm not sure. It could be that it conflicts with another mod in your game.
