Title: What was Your First Sims 2 Experience Like?
Post by: Madison-Simple-As-That on March 18, 2009, 10:37:47 pm
What was it like? were you confused, doing it with a friend, already knew what it was about, etc?

Mine was when I was with my friend Taylor a couple of years ago, and we were cooky girls, and she turned it on and we made our self sims (only maxis content.) and a really ugly father with make-up on. We killed him off, and them played, and it seemed so different than how I see it now. The dating thing was hilarious, and I laughed my butt off whenever he brought the flaming bag of dog poo. Whenever we did that date thing, Taylor's self sim got a hot date, and mine got an ugly one, really really fugly.  I felt bad for the fugly simmie, so my self sim dated him anyways. Our self sims were teens, so no babies anyways, and we didn't play long enough for them to age, anyways. We got all pissed at each other after a while of debating whose turn it was, it was so freaking fun and I never realized that it existed. So we brought out a timer and played for like 5 minutes each, and it killed me, so we just went to bed. Lol.
Oh, and you know how a few years ago when you made self sims that you just wanted it to be pretty and you didn't care if it didn't look like you? That's what we did. We made what we'd love to look like, but kept our skin/eye/hair color.

Ah hah hah, first sim experiences. Share Yours! (Please let me know if there is already a topic like this.)

My first time as a Sims 2 player-I was totally lost, confused, and puzzled. My computer wasn't the best on graphics, and it really didn't come across as nicely as the one I have now-but it was a challenge to figure out everything, plus it was fun.
I recently restarted the very first game I ever had, and I'm stunned by all I missed the first go-around; the graphics are far better, the gameplay smoother. Now I know what I'm doing, and it's far better than it was the first time. Of course, I didn't know diddly squat about hacks, mods or CC at that time, so all the irritating, headache-inducing pain was present.
I now have about 2 years of gameplay experience under my belt, and all I have to say is:
Now they're in for it!

I was over at my sister's place shortly after the game came out and she took my sleeping son out of my arms and put him into the portable crib and then she sat me in front of her computer and told me to have some fun. I goofed around for hours building a house, making a sim of my second ex-husband and then burning it down around him. (Honest, my former therapist tells me I'm fine, so don't worry!) I was blown away by the thing, coming into it as I did straight from the original game.

I wanted that game soooo bad! But, there was nothing in the budget to be able to afford it, so I lived without it until my husband came home from work with a silly grin on his face and handed me the thing, along with University. Then he told me that he'd gotten a bonus on his check so he got me something nice cause I'd wanted it but never nagged for it. I didn't have custom content for some time until again, my sister took me online and showed me what could be gotten.

She also showed me some cool cheats and gave me a game guide. I lived without internet connection for years, but once I got it, I hit every good free site I could find for stuff. One item I downloaded required a mesh that could only be gotten here. I didn't know what mesh was back in those days, but I followed the trail, joined and so you find me here today. Whoah, what a trip! :D

It was a blast! I remember the hardest thing I had getting used to was the ability to change the angle I was loooking at my sims. In the original game, you played looking down at your sims as if you were stuck to the ceiling in a corner of the room. But now all of a sudden I could see them straight on! And oh, fingers that articulated indiviidually! No more holding spoons with Eygptian hands! LOL!

Wow, everyone's are different! It seemed that a few people I knew had sims and let me play it, I was so confused, but it was so fun. But none of them had C, and I had never heard of it until my friend Seanna told me about it and tought me how when she came over, and it took FOREVER to get it to work. Once I did, I loved the game so much more. The thing I hate about browsing everyone else's pictures is that I get jealous, lol, everyone's sims are much better than mine.

Ah well. Sims experiences are amazing.
Paden, I did that too. I made a crappy house and made him marry GOOPY!!!!! BAH BAH BAH BAHBHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH! Then I burned him and set the whole house on fire, and enjoyed every minute of it. My friend said I needed therapy, but I think it's okay.  ;D

When I got my hands on Sims 2, there was no going back anymore. I sat in front of my computer screen for hours and kept mumbling things like: "Wow... ooh... aah... oh, that's great... awesome..." I was like a kid in a candy store. The only thing that bothered me was the not so pleasing maxis game content, especially after having so much beautiful and modern content + clothes in The Sims. My first sim lady was wearing that red blouse-white capris-red tennis shoes -outfit for quite awhile. I started playing in the Strangetown and when the alien neighbor first time showed up behind my sim's door, I almost fell off my chair out of excitement. ;D Oh, the newness of it all. It was great. :)

i was more excited than a kid before christmas gifts openning lol
i remember my firt sims was blond lady called sarah (still got her in my game)
she was kind of don lothario

her house was a big pink manor with a huge swimming pool where she used to spend all her time

i remenber have a lot of fun creating kid summer camp too

i used to spend a lot of time creating horrible babies in "create  a sims" trying to find if they was looking more like their mother or their father

Oh, and the bubbles coming out of their... uh... rear end. It was hilarious to watch how some sim walked around on community lot, spreading all those bubbles everywhere. 1laugh

I first heard of it when I was in a chatgroup with some people I met over the internet ... a friend of mine religiously played the game, as well, but I was nervous (at that point I had a very bad desktop computer and was wary of video games). When I got my new laptop, it was the first game I bought (I was so proud!).

The first time I opened the game ... well, I was confused, and I didn't understand the differences between the Sims 1 and the Sims 2 ... I thought things would be exactly the same.

I created a sim, moved her in, and actually managed to have things be very good. She had twins, a headmaster hubby, and some.. strange genetics. (This was when I was really into goth-looking sims). Come to think of it, I still have a back-up of her somewhere.

I used to play Sims 1 and I still do once in a blue moon when I feel nostalgic. So I did have some fairly good ideas how Sims 2 worked. I didn't buy Sims 2 until Nov 2006 and had no idea what mods, hacks, meshes and recolors were for several months.

The first experience I had was playing my family, the Durants, in Veronaville. It was a challenge figuring out how to feed the baby and change the baby's diaper. I was like.. "HTF I do this?" I didn't have a diaper changing station in the house and only figuring out that part later on after looking around online for tips and help. Haha! I finally figured out what Feed Bottle To... was on the fridge. Not quite like Sims 1. I was disappointed that the parents don't sing to their babies after feeding and changing diapers in Sims 2.

Just recently, I discovered something I never knew pets could do. They can bark or meow at themselves in the mirrors. I was very surprised the cat in one family liked to meow at herself in the standing mirror. After 3 years, I'm still amazed by the little gems in the game.. Oh yea, when can I see toddlers swinging about the ceiling fans like they did in the Sims 2 ad video from Makin' Magic for Sims 1? :P

:)

Psh, I know! That commercial is nothing like the game, and was full of crap that can't happen. *pouts with Joy and sulks with Chaavik*

I remember on one of my first fams, my self sim as a teen, mum and dad and little sister, and I was struggling BIG TIME! I used a maxis house and decorated a little of the inside, and it was terrible, I was a new player, and whenever the social bunny showed up it was watching my sim go to the bathroom and it scared the freaking crap outta me. I thought it came from that little pink bunny toddler toy, and when I sold it and it didn't leave, I got scared. I had my self sim (That looked nothing like me) fight it, and I was just plain freaked out, so I turned it off, later to find outwhat the bunny was and where it came from. Lol.
And I never knew about cakes until my friend told me about it.

Talking about commercials/trailers... I remember the part from the trailer, where this young couple was sitting on the couch, barely making out and then the female sim rips open her blouse before jumping all over the poor guy. Boy, was I disappointed when that feature wasn't in the game. ;D

Oh yeah, I figured it would be just like the commercial, but it was so much different, and the ceiling thing wasn't there, the toys, the clothes, hair, pregnant belly is way different, etc.

You guys are making me sad that I honestly can't remember my first Sims experience. It was so long ago and I have the worst memory.

But I DO remember all the lies those stupid commercials fed us! Grrrr ...

My first sims experience was traumatizing and I still mourn.  I made an elder female and had her daughter living with her in a small house with only 1/16th's of a clue how to play and after 4hrs elder died while daughter was at work, I panicked turned off my pc's power and didn't play again for about 5 monthes.  Seriously I still feel that desperation and pain over granny.  She deserved better.  I live with that burden so others don't have to LMAO!

Cheers   2coffee

Why in the devil did you reply to a thread that has been dormant for longer than a year? Word to the wise: if it hasn't been posted in for more than a month, leave it alone and move on. Thank you.

My first experience was drooling over it while watching over my cousin's back while she played. I got my laptop not long after (day before New Year's Eve, 05/06), and bought the basegame, NL, Uni and (I think) the 2005 christmas pack together with it.

Since I went to school out of my hometown, and lived in my own apartment (without parents watching over my back) there were lots of late evenings nights from then on...

I barely remember what my first Sims experience was like. All I remember was the very first family I made was placed into a house in Downtown (I got the Deluxe package, which was the original Sims 2 game and Nightlife), and that the teenage son looked an awful lot like my cousin Daniel.

Well, my first Sims 2 experience was back when the game first came out, just about three months afterwards. Ironically, my cousin, too, got me hooked to it. I ended up spending three hours at her house just playing Sims 2 with her. The next day, I bought the base game. The day after that, I discovered Dina Caliente.  Of course, I went in and played around a bit, only to get her pregnant by Mortimer. I ended up panicing when Dina went into her third trimester. I thought she would explode. Unfortunately, she died six Sim hours later of "Sudden Pregnancy Death Syndrome".  :-X I was really upset about loosing the first Sim I ever played with, and I didn't play again until ten months later after I'd discovered how to bump up the graphics, the Boolprop cheat, and maxmotives. My head about exploded when I found "showheadlines off" and "plumbbobtoggle"!

It was with my cousin, Brianna, I had just gotten the game for my birthday two(?) years ago, and my sister had played it before, ,but not me... So I made a "self sim" of her (who was BUTT ugly) and she did the exact same for me, but we were, like, 11 and 12 then, so it was our best try, and we only had limited CC. Well then we made a hot older brother, and two hot boyfriends, and thanks to inteen my self sim got pregnant- which was fine with us, until the baby grew up to look JUST like my self sim... then we deleted them all.

Then we made a better family- my sister's favorite sim, and a really pretty girl (yogurt, and his wife Shailena) and had them have 329,593,879,000 babies... ish... and then named them: Hobbes, Shamwow, Mr.Clean (a girl), Fireball, etc...

It turns out, Fireball is/was my favorite sim of all time ^.^

I thought this post was too old, maybe old posts are like old people, if you stop for a moment nope I can't think of a point, I'm too undercaffenaited.  I miss you granny. My first elder sim, my first elder death, from my first ever sim made family.  Your gone but you'll live forever in my posts now.

*Don't throw rocks at me!* *Point's at happy's avi*

I barely remember my first sims 2 experience. A friend of mine who lived in the same neighborhood as me at the time showed me the game. (The first one) by this point in time sims 2 was due out in about 3 months, so I had a little stint with TS1. Not too long, never got CC for it. After I got the sims 2, about 1 month or two after it came out, I just played it. I liked the game, never had a problem. I saw CC online, took my drastically dumber brain forever to figure it out. Eventually I did, but pretty much stayed exclusively to furnitures and such. My old computer could barely run the game as is. It wasn't really fun with that old computer, but it was playable. That was my first experience. But REALLY playing the game, that's a different story.

I put the game down for a couple years, as my family and I pretty much ran around the world, finally settling down here. Last summer I was looking through my closet for my simcity disc, which I put into storage the year before, and could only find the sims 2. My cousin was staying over for a few weeks that summer and pretty much told me "why not?" since I could not find my simcity disc.
I'll be honest here, I didn't really feel like picking it up after how long I haven't played it. And the only EP I had was OFB. All I remembered of the game was lag lag lag. But I also got a new computer for my birthday that year. Regardless, I was wondering if it was going to be worth the effort to install the game.

Eventually I did. We both played on and off, grabbing CC smarter than before. And with the new comp, everything ran flawlessly. It was a lot funner then when I played the first time, but I still sort of expected to drop the game as soon as my cousin left. But no.

This "second" first experience is really where I got hooked. I was more interested in the game than just seeing how many houses I could burn down. (I did that a lot when I was younger lol) I was truly hooked to the game. I grabbed CC everywhere, for everything. I just kept playing, I signed up here, played some more. And at this point, I was quite a bit older since the last time I picked up the game, and there was a big difference in the way I played it. And, I'm still hooked, one year on. I think it's awesome.  :p

I remember getting it and trying to install it in my computer, but the thing was just so awful, that when I made a family (me, my mom, my sister, and my grandma) the loading screen from CAS to neighborhood froze up. We went out to dinner that night (it was my birthday) and it was still there XD Same thing happened with Sims 1 a couple times....

Anyway, then I'd play it at my grandma's house (she had just gotten a new computer, her first one ever) and I made a house....numerous houses.... of me and my then-crush. I have a bad habit of making multiple families of the same people. I think I had four or five versions of my and my boyfriend's sim running around my neighborhood O_o Anyway, back on track, I didn't have any CC but I remember zooming in and out and in and out and in and out just because I could XD Even going through the people a couple times because I could get that close to them!

No idea how I learned about CC, I think from downloading off the exchange since I didn't know about these wonderful sites that didn't thieve. None-the-less, I got some good stuff from there, uploaded my own stuff (I'M SORRY TO ALL CREATORS WHOSE WORK I USED WITHOUT CREDIT! :-[ I plead ignorance!) and that's really how I got hooked.

I actually remember my first sims 1 experience better than the sims 2. All I remember about my first experience with the sims 2 is that the very first family I made was mine(Me, parents, brother, and sister) and my brother was my very first(and only) sim I've raised from teens, to YA, to Adult. I also didin't realize I could download custom content for free until like 2 or 3 years after I started playing the sims. A FEW MONTHS AGO, I just discovered the reason some of my custom hairs and cltohes didint work was because I needed Meshes(and I've been downloading CC for like 3 years  :-\ )

^ I'm with you there, I remember my sims 1 experience! My grandma played sims, and I'd seen my brother play it, and wanted to try... all that happened was pee on the front lawn, and a miserable baby. :/

I first heard about the sims when I was a sophmore in highschool. I was sitting by my friend Patrice in my 1st period Biology class, and she was laughing and talking about how the social worker took her baby away. I was half paying attention, but when she said 'social worker took my baby away' I was like who got their baby took away? She grinned and said, my sim! I was like WTF a sim? I never thought anything else about it, until one weekend I was visiting my sister and she had  copy of The Sims 1 for PS2, I popped it in and started playing, and was immediatley hooked! I played for like hours. I decided if it was this much fun on the ps2, just think how fun it would be on the computer! My boyfriend bought me TS2 Double Deluxe, I came home and installed it, and thought it was the greatest thing in the world. I can remember how excited I was when I got my first CC to show up in the game, matter-a-fact I know what it was. It was Bruno at MTS2's candy lips. 3yay lol. I remember decorating really ugly houses. It sucks that my downloads folder crashed, and I lost all my first sims. I remember they were all in Pleasantview, as that was the only hood I played at first. ;D

I'd played it twice before, both times at a friend's place and let's just say we weren't good... in those two families I played there was a fire, a death, aspirational failure...

And yet I decided to get it for myself.  I made several houses, including an underwater one, till I settled with an ugly house with no flooring, just foundation (and wondering why all the sims had red environment...) and I made about 20 versions of this one family (I couldn't decide what age the kids should be, and if there should be 2, 3, or 4, lol) before I finally started playing.  I learned about cheats quickly, and was a over the top about using them.  I had no expansion packs and motherloded when needed, so I never sent them to work, and I never bothered to make them have friends or anything- when I wanted them to have spouses, I made them in CAS and moved them in (I had uni by the time the third kid's wedding came around, which made this process easier) and cheated the relationship up so they could instantly be married and have babies.  That family went several generations before I deleted the neighborhood when I was bored...  And no wonder why.  The only interesting family was one that I gave a shop selling fish, boots, and veggies they caught/grew themselves (I had nearly all the EPs by then thanks to an old friend, but I've since had to get a new computer and only have the EPs I got myself).

I was introduced by my friend. Its was the sims 1 on gamecube. It was maybe 5th or 6th grade. She said: "You have to play this game with me its so fun!"
Me: "Looks kind of weird...". Little did I know I would still be playing 4 or 5 years later. I soon got very addicted to the game. I played all night long while she fell asleep. I went home and looked up the game. I even bought my own gamecube and sims 1 just to play. When I found out there was a sims 2 on PC I practically freaked out.

My first day playing sims 2 I stayed up till 5 in the morning playing. It was a 12 hour simming a thon. I ended up falling asleep at my desk with a migraine of a headache. I couldn't even stand my own thoughts. I woke up two hours later with a really bad kink in my neck and my back hurting like crazy. So yeah, I loved the game. :D

Well, thanks to my friend who introduced me to the Sims 1 I kept a close watch on if/when they were making a Sims 2. When it came out, I remember rushing to the store and getting it. I think there were only 2 left other than the one I had gotten at the time. I remember I read the book at least 2 times because I would forget camera shortcuts. I also remember feeling (and still do sometimes) happy as a puppy with a new toy. I don't know, just something about this game I love. Perhaps putting all the stories in my head to life, or perhaps it's the "escape from reality". Especially with the hundreds of cc and mods, I'm in simmer's heaven  :D
